This is the first time I had a belt break on a tire, Its a front passenger. 10 ply KO2, not terribly low tread but a 2016 tire. Kinda sad now... but Id think a tire like this would be much less likely to happen to than a car tire?

Back in the early 90's I bought a set of house brand Discount/America's Tire tires. I had 2 tires with belts that separated and caused a bubble. In the 70's/early80's there was a problem with Firestone 721 tires. Rusty steel used for the belts caused the problem and they were recalled.

Did not know about those, but dam sure remember these as a kid on my parent's brand new '73 Mercury Marquis station wagon with a 429.

My Dad put on an electronic ignition kit as it came with points. :D

I did some research. old tires, lots of low speed turning, a LOT of weight on front end, and a wide tread patch(more resistance in turns) with a moderate sidewall(some flexing) are likely contributing. And sitting rather than getting used

We had a '72 Merc Monterey wagon, basically the base model with no wood paneling. Unfortunately it had the 400. My dad also added some type of electronic ignition kit on ours too. My dad worked for Chevron for 38 years, most of it in the marketing Dept. Their in house brand tires were Atlas, but made by Firestone. We had at least 3 bubble on us due to belt separation.

@AuroraGirl my dad also had a '91 Southwind motorhome with Michelins on it when he bought it new. The tires only had about 40K miles and looked brand new. After about 6-7 years they had started weather checking. He ended up losing the tread and wiping out one of the storage cabinets.

only downside(only one folks) is that they leave a deep black spot whenever and however you touch em. literally like if you put your hand in black paint. gets everywhere.

That black is probably the tire oxidizing, kind of like surface rust.

Tire belts can shift, having driven various commercial vans over 400k to and from various construction sites, try dropping the air pressure a little. If i ran max pressure in the front tire, a good pot hole or curb could cause the belt to shift, dropping air pressure down to above the minimum would get rid of the shift of the belt and keep the tire in service a little longer. It eliminated the thumping feel in the steering wheel.

it's worth a shot.
