How much is this 87 GMC 2500 worth?

Hey guys new to this forum, thinking about getting this 1987 GMC 2500, he was asking 7500 but talked him down to 5, it's got a 383 stroker and the sm465 transmission w/ 4 gears. I went to go test drive it the other day and noticed a couple of issues, there is A LOT of play in the steering, about 3 inches from the center on the left and right side before it actually turn the vehicle, theres minor rust on the leaf springs and frame, and you have to keep your hand on the shifter or else it will pop out of 3rd gear, and theres no key so you just turn it on by twisting where the key would go.

Lastly the thing that concerns me the most is that it has a salvage title, he says that the front end got messed up and the insurance company said it would cost more to fix than what the truck is worth so it got salvaged but it looks like he still went through the trouble and work to restore this thing so i don't know what to think about that.

What do you guys think its worth?

i think 5 sounds fair for here. Price varies depending on where the truck is selling tho.

The title would be an issue for me. If you plan to drive it make sure the title is straightened out befor shelling out cash.

SM465 should be a relatively cheap fix, once you get tcase & tranny pulled. Ignition not too bad (I sold a whole steering column w/lock & keys the other day for $70).

Really nice looking truck,,,,If 383 your talking about a stroker small block which could be a great motor or it could give you problems depending on who built it. Id ask more about who built the motor,,,was it a crate? Receipts?

The steering wheel play is probably the steering gear box or could be a bad rag joint. I just went through this on my suburban. Rebuilt box for 140 bucks and now steering is really nice.

5k is a good price for that truck around here as well. BUT without looking it over its hard to tell what kinda shape the motor is in.
