A few years ago I found my 83 dually setting in a field on a farm, I purchased it from the original owner and hauled it home on my trailer, rebuilt the complete brake system carburetor and 6 new tires. Has been a great investment, found an 85 thought was going to use it for a parts truck, wrong replaced engine (350) and drove it for a while and transmission went out (700r) instead of rebuilding it I have put a turbo 400 out of a GTO (used an adaptor BOP) supposed to get my driveshaft back this weekend. While waiting I found a 84 4x4 short bed that past owner had given up on after replacing all the suspension and brakes. There is a 5.3 out of a 2004 Suburban setting in the engine compartment with the correct motor mounts for the 84. The past owner was trying to take the motor out when the truck rolled down a small hill and into his shop, need I say more I got there loaded it up before he changed his mind. As soon as I get the 85 off the jack stands I will start on the conversion, I have a 4L60e that will bolt up to the engine if I can bolt the original transfer case up. Still doing the research as I type this note ( kind of why I joined this site) I’m retired and have more time than money but have access to parts from past projects. My biggest concern is the electronics, but never too old to learn, been working on all my past vehicles since I got my drivers license ( my father gave me a 55 Chevy hardtop roller ) and well I’ve been working on cars and trucks sence then. I look forward to getting to know all of the Square Body members over my remaining years and we can share all the things I’ve learned from all the mistakes I’ve made.

Brother that car is beautiful and I think you are doing a great work there , from my point of view!

I look and look for one that hasn't been half-assed turned into a "race car" and all I find is that they are few and far between. I'd like to see one in my driveway because they SURE DON'T MAKE EM LIKE THAT ANYMORE! I'm sure she's a peach. Congratulations!:)

Preston, welcome to the site. Looks like you have a diverse fleet of nice classic cars. I like your black stepside. What year? 69, 70?

Would like to find a step side bed for this one

I have started my latest project not sure if I have the knowledge to document the process but I will attempt to, I’m sure I’m not the first to do this I have a 1981 Chevy 4x4 frame ( pictures above) that has all new brakes front and rear and front end completely rebuilt with new parts , new springs and shocks. There is a 1984 Cab setting on it that is rust free, (with a Va title) it’s legal, if you look under the hood you will find a V8 engine from a 2005 Suburban ( I shared some of this in my introduction) that’s just setting there sideways with the new motor mounts. This is what I have bought, past owner had done all this work and when trying to take the motor out, the truck rolled down the yard into his shed. he tried to stop the truck with the forks on the tractor therefore there are a few holes poked in the bed on the passenger side.he got mad and kicked both doors on the cab and posted the truck on Craigslist in a fit of anger, anyway I bought it as is before the post was there 2 minutes sight unseen.
My questions follow, I have the original transfer case and front end which is on the right side and an engine that I believe fed a transfer case that front end was on the drivers side. What is the most economical way to make this work, any help would be greatly appreciated, I have a 2 wheel drive 4L80e transmission from mid 90’s Corvette will that bolt up to the transfer case with an adapter? If not would I be better off with a transmission from an mid 80’s 4x4 not sure just need everything to go to the ECM well now you all know the rest of the story and where my project begins. I have looked thought the sight and lsswap blogs but have not found the right one yet. I will be waiting to hear from those that have been down this path before me, thanks in advance for all your help.
