Will the hood off of a 1981 Chevy GMC fit 1980 GMC k3500? How does the shape of headlights affect what Hood fits what truck?

Wow, thats a real deal '80 with the square headlights.

73 - 80 have a different shape than 81 - 87. If you were looking side to side across the two, the front of the earlier hoods is taller than the later model and 81 - 87 has a wedge shape overall. The part where it comes to the cowl is different too, IIRC. Hinges won't interface either.

As already stated, it won't work. The whole front clip is different on '81-up trucks as well as the hood hinges and cowl area. Not to mention '81-up hoods are shorter because they don't shroud the wipers like '73-80. '81-up has a cowl panel that bolts around the wipers.

So I found a hood from a 73 to 80 that would work?

My father ordered this truck from the factory in '79, it is the camper special that came with factory installed camper tie downs, factory towing mirrors and two shock absorbers in the bed of the truck connecting the front of the bed to the cab, deluxe interior, it's a nice truck!

There's a shock in there under the random stuff that probably won't be put back into camper service. Must be remnants of option Z83?

I read here somewhere that the 1 tons got the square headlights first and it trickled down from there, IIRC. No matter, all different by '81.

Is this your truck I'm assuming? Not that I look at all the trucks produced but yours is the only one I've seen with the camper special features!

Me too, which was at the time I bought it, a feature set that I like. Mostly referring to the factory rear swaybar and bb/turbo 400. I doubt it will see service as a camper hauler (unless the stars align) but more likely a firewood/gravel/heavy $#it hauler with occasional duty as a zoom zoom. If I can static lower it 2" without screwing the pooch on haul capacity,
