Holes in roof. Any Ideas?

Hello everyone. Longtime lurker here and figured I would reach out to the experts.

Im in the middle of rewiring my truck (Painless for the win) and when I removed my headliner, I noticed these holes underneath.

It doesnt leak (at the moment) but it looks like it is just bind filling the hole straight to the outside. Any ideas what this is or used to be?

Was your truck ever a Military, Fire Dept. Police or Forest service vehicle?
Often there would be different radio antennas on the roof.

Not to my knowledge. Truck is a 76 swb and restored in the 90s with 85-86 parts (front end, bed sides, interior, etc). I wouldnt be surprised though if someone had antennas up there at some point.

Weird thing is it has 2 matching holes on each side for a total of 4.

Maybe someone installed grab bars or “Oh ****” handles at some point… ?

Thats what I thought but if I grab the little barb and wiggle, I discovered they go to straight to the outside and are probably bondo.

I didnt know if they were some factory option with how well they are cut or not. I was thinking light bar maybe?

Now ai have to figure out out to replug them. Welding in new metal is the best way but Im not quite ready to do that yet as I plan on repainting the whole truck in the future

I use the round plugs with the little fingers that pop in. They come in all sorts of sizes.

Great Idea! Ill see if these leak after I wiggled them. If they do, Ill go grab some of those for temporary fix until I get the truck painted

I did a truck with holes like that from lights mounted up top.
I welded the outside ones closed and ignored the inner ones. The headliner covered em up

Thats the longterm plan for sure. Dont want to do that now as Im not quite ready to paint

If these are antenna holes, you could get NMO antenna plugs. It’s hard to tell the size in the picture, but I’ve had a couple ex cop cars that have tons of holes in them and I was able to plug the antenna holes with plastic snap in caps. You can even sand them and paint them I suppose, so that they do not stand out as much, but my ex cop cars have always been black so I just snap them in and leave them. This is what they look like.

I had a mustang gt that I did a spoiler delete on years ago that this worked well on.

My truck is black as well but it has laquer paint so it is cracking everywhere. Hopefully they wont leak for now. Its kept in a garage most of the time when Im not workong on it

for mine on my roof and drip rail hole i use evercoat fibertech a good product for fast and cheap repair!

It’s a little strange being a 3 person cab but maybe it was a professional remanufactuee of a suburban where it was clearly originally from. Tree must have fell on the middle snd had it made into a cab.
