Allegedly, the engine in my 1986 GMC Sierra is a big block 454 that came from a 1986-ish motorhome. I am trying to verify, but I am having trouble with the casting numbers. The engine is still inside my truck, so I am doing some amazing contortion maneuvers to locate them. So far, the only thing I can find that is close is 14087481. When I googled that and visited some engine lab websites, I found numbers that were close, but not right. Plenty of 140xxxxx numbers, but no 1408xxxx numbers in the big block list. Can someone please give me a shove in the right direction? The number provided was stamped just in front of the distributor.

I also found this. This number is on the bottom, just above the oil filter and close to the transmission bell housing.

That 1408 number is just for the intake manifold. The block casting number, and usually a date code, can be found on top of the bellhousing area.

Look behind the driver's side head. There is a small ledge that has the casting number. You might need some degreaser and a long handled brush to clean it off.

14015445 454 block.

Could be 2 bolt, could be 4 bolt. You never know until you get in there and look.

Probably has peanut port heads, if it's a mid 80's engine.

Ah yes. The 445 number is probably a good indicator of that huh?
