Hello from Albuquerque, NM
Working on a '83 c30 single cab with a 6.2 LSA. With all of the upgrades, should hopefully be around 900 hp at the crank on 16-17 pounds. Doing most of the work in my shop, but a buddy of mine built the engine. This use to be the shop truck for my welding/fabrication business and had a crate zz454 (now going in my '89 half ton rcsb). Finished building my own shop this year in my backyard, so now I can get back to finishing the dually.
I chopped the factory bed long ways with the intent of making It a flatbed and the tailgate being a big drawer that slid out, but now that it's not a shop truck, I'm just going to do the flatbed. Not 100% sure, but leaning towards raising the stock floor and filling in where the wheel tubs were. Original bed floor is trashed, so need to find a donor or order a new floor. Building a 10 point cage for if/when I get bored and want to add some more power, I don't have to worry about upgrading the cage later on. Rear disc brake conversion and next phase of mods I'd like to do tubular a-arms and a softer rear suspension now that I won't be towing with it.
I'll build some fenders that are proportional to the bed as I get to finishing the bodywork and what not. Mostly aiming to get it drivable over next few months. Currently has a built th400 and ratchet shifter setup. I have an Eaton locker for the rear and some caltracs to put on.
A little history on the truck. Bought it from the family of the original owner out of AZ. He used the truck as a welding rig, but passed away unfortunately. I bought it via pics/video, had it shipped over to me about 7-8 years ago now. Was originally a diesel, but at some point the guy put an 80s big block in it. I pulled it out a couple years later and replaced with the zz454. Had some rust where the rocker and floor came together and bottoms of the doors were starting to bubble a little bit on the inside, but aside from that it was pretty straight. I happen to come across almost an entire 4 door dually worth of NOS sheetmetal. Sold off several of the pieces, but kept front doors, front fenders and tailgate. Part of why the truck is different colors at the moment.
