HEI ignition module relocation

Hi all.

Had anyone every tried relocating the module, putting it in a cooler spot? My understanding is that the failure problem of these things is due to the electronic getting to hot over time.

Don't waste your time. Failed modules are not that common if they are GM and well greased. Problem originates with poor quality parts and dried up grease. If your replacing one go to a pick and pull, find a used GM.

People run them externally all the time. I agree with fast though. If you want just Google gm 4 wire module on mopar,Kawasaki,Ford,Toyota, etc. lots of people run cheap GM modules in place of their expensive modules. GM went external,I don't remember the year you can grab the heat sink and mounting bracket from the bone yard probably most common is going to be 94-04 S10.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Find good Delco modules in a junkyard, or get top quality napa modules. And DONT use dielectric grease, use the proper thermal paste. They are not the same stuff.

Thermal paste is very commonly used when you build a PC and install a CPU cooler. If the auto parts store doesn’t have it, try an electronics store.

Beating a dead horse, but a $14 ebay module is a module in name only. Yes, use thermal paste and always buy two modules even when you only need one.
