OK I'll ask....How?
How do you get the spring compressor on?
Is it a special tool?
How do you keep the valves from slipping into the cylinder?
TDC each cylinder?
I'd like to know how?

Yes, there is a special tool KD Tools makes one I know for usre. It's like a pry bar that goes over the rocker arm stud. You use air or, my preference is fill the cylinder enough with a small rope, then bring the piston up to TDC to hold the valve up into the head and keep it from dropping out of the guide.

I believe the tool is K-D Tools #912. I know it works for SBC, not sure what others.

EDIT: Oh and Neener Neener !!! I have one. I've had to replace valve springs with a cam swap before to dual springs, and I've also replaced a broken valve spring on a buddy's car before.

Yepper they do. A very common head and known to be notorious for cracking. I think they've improved some on the cracking for the later years. To the best of my knowledge, the 442's originated as the head for SBC 400's and came with steam holes.

Also pretty sure the 442's are what come on the GM Performance crate Heche En Mexico motors.
