I'm sorry if someone has asked this previously, but can a round header tube be applied to the rectangular exhaust ports on an 85 C30 with the 7.4 454 big block? If so, do I use round or rectangular gaskets?

I have 1 3/4" round headers on my 67 L78 heads that's in my truck. I used the gaskets for the head. I use the fuzzy black gaskets I believe Percy makes them never had an issue.

So the gaskets are rectangular?

Gotcha. Thanks! I'm thinking about Summit headers.

They are more then likely Pro Comp a Chinese rip off of namebrand stuff company. Definitely look into the Percy fuzzy black gaskets.

I put Patriot headers on about a year ago and I was never able to get them to seal properly. I'll try the gaskets and let you know.

Best is the copper gaskets, BUT, if the beads on the header flange aren't flat all the way across(a problem with the China **** headers), don't matter what gasket you use you'll always have leaks, also never over tighten the end bolts and bend the flanges, that is very easy to do with those cheapos because the steel is soft and bend real easy....

The sealing surface of the header is usually much thinner than the sealing surfaces of the head. For that reason alone I always get gaskets to match the headers well, then just make sure they mate up with the head also. The expensive copper/aluminum gaskets do work very well too.

I put new gaskets on today. It stopped the leak but now the truck does not accelerate as good as it used to. Any ideas?
