This is my Pilot Car with a ProTech Headache rack. Very nice commercial rack. The company website only shows racks for 1988 up GM trucks, but what's a quarter or half inch in width in the old truck world!

My pilot car is a 1998 12 Valve, with only 497,000 miles on it. Since the 12 valve is called the 'million mile' Cummins, I've still got 503,000 miles left to drive!

Pro Tech that was for a 94-02 Ram. Had to have a friend modify the rails, but I like the results.

its integrated with the bed rails, which i think are literrally providing the structure of the bed at the moment.
built by my gpa, who was a welder by trade.. he built a LOT of things. impressive. i am gonna clean it up and get some paint on it one of these days.

My Grandpa and Dad's oilfield roustabout company used to build there own headache racks and had them on all their pickups back in the day. Here is an example of one of them they built in the 80's. The back rack had hammer unions on it so it was easy to take off or swing out of the way.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's a hammer union?

That rack is the only thing holding that truck together.

Caught this one out in the wilds. Lot of work to individually cut out all those circles.:superhack:

id go the extra step, cut out the section where the slider is, and weld in a square frame as to provide access and make more rigid. then of course maybe make a gate that pivots or comes off if you want that square secured from a load
