Have i decoded this VIN correctly????

Got some further details of a K10 i’m looking at but the VIN appears incorrect.

If i’m reading it correctly
Canadian built, C10, 6.2 diesel???

If anyone can confirm that would be great.

Also is there a VIN number stamped on the chassis anywhere?

Reason I am querying it is it’s 4 wheel drive. I’m presuming a K10 thats had at least a C10 cab fitted?

I need to clarify it all as in the UK if not all correctly notified and declared, particularly when it comes to insurance, it can be a nightmare!

Well it's easy to take a look under the hood re engine haha. Does it still have the 6.2? Your ??? Makes me think you're not sure what engine is in it?

I have the shop manual but I'll have to find some time to dig up that page.

The question marks related to my whole decoding of the whole VIN.

It is a 6.2 diesel

5th digit is cab / chassis layout.

I thought C was RWD and K 4WD??

This is definitely 4WD and i want to know if there will be a VIN on the chassis somewhere so i can confirm if its an original K series or has someone spent the time and actually converted it to 4WD?

The VIN is stamped on the top of the frame, but I don’t believe you can readily see it with the cab & fuel tanks installed.

Not on the side; top of the top flange only. You would need a mirror to see it.

Ok - so the serial portion of the VIN is the last six digits: 216200.

The "1" in the space prior to that is for the Oshawa assembly plant

The "C" in front of that is for the 1982 model year (ie, A= 1980, B=1981, C=1982).

That's all from memory. Give me a sec to find a decoder.

This C is for 2WD. K would be 4x4, D would be CUCV.

Is that sticker in the door jamb or glovebox? Check the VIN on the dash seen through the windshield.

Awesome help chaps! Yes I think it’s a bit of a frankenstein too!

I have a photo of the VIN on the dash but it is unreadable, looks like multiple layers of paint. Need to have a look in person.

The VIN i have got is off its UK registration documents and MOT certificates.

Any chance of a good image or description of exactly where i need to look on the chassis to check the chassis VIN number?

Not the best image but at a push i’d say it matches the glovebox VIN and the VIN on the documents i have.

Im in the process of a complete resto on my ‘78.
It definitely has the VIN on top and the side of one of the frame rails.

I used to be the foreman on the line where they were stamped.

I think you'll find the VIN is on top and there are supplier marks, date codes and part number on the side.

So, I have a plan. Kind of.

I have spoken to a highly regarded UK based American vehicle club who also know the ins and outs of our DVLA (vehicle registration) system.

Their members are regarded as an official reference to age and identify imported and restored vehicles.

Through their members and the vehicles they own they are fairly sure the can compare this vehicle i am interested in, confirm its identity which i hope to be a factory K10 chassis rebodied with a C10 cab.

Once confirmed they can provide documentation I can use to update the vehicle documents and use to prove all the changes are inline with all regulations and standards.

It’s a bit of a long winded process given the vehicle has been in the UK since 1985 with no issues but due to changes in enforcement and regulation in recent decades i feel a necessary step to prove the authenticity of the vehicle.

Really appreciate all the help and info everyone on the forum has provided so far.

Should I strike a deal and buy it this forum and its members will be an invaluable source of information to help me get it up and running.

I’ll update once / if things move along.
