So I was in the process of replacing my Shift Indicator on my Jimmy when I noticed that the area where the wire on the shift indicator sits on the gauge cluster backing plate was broken off. I know LMC sells a new backing plate but I may just try and find one at a junkyard. Im wondering tho if its even worth the hassle to remove the instrument panel and replace the backing plate. If its not too complicated or difficult I may go ahead and replace but wondering if anyone has any input before attempting.

Thank you

Not hard to replace. If you get one from a junkyard you can figure out the process without tearing yours up first.

putting in the new shift indicator is no problem at all. was wondering more about the actual instrument panel since theres a small piece of plastic on the bottom that guides the wire on the shift indicator. This little piece is broken on my instrument panel therefore there is no guide for the shift indicator wire. I need to replace that whole plate with one that has the little guide on it.

Think ill see what I can find at the junkyard.

thank you both for the replies

You can disassemble the entire cluster and put all your bits in a new housing. It's nothing really difficult, other than all those bits are fragile due to age so you have to be gentle.

like Bucket said it's not hard to change and the shift indicator will not work without that guide. highdesertranger

I installed a tach that had a small fuel gauge in one and used the fuel hole to install a dual needle air gauge. All looks factory and really cool.

LEDs will not dim in the instrument panel.

Also LEDs go into the socket 2 ways, but only work one way. Test, test, test.
