I've decided to build my own forward tilt front clip on my '86 Sierra Classic. I've come to a BIG roadblock on how to do this. I'm looking at how I'm going to make the clip flip forward (will want the bumper to go with the rest of the clip). I've been considering cutting my chassis right behind the core support and having it tilt from there, is that a good idea? Otherwise I'm thinking I'd need to find a hinge system that would lift and tilt a full 90°. Either way I go ill be using a hydraulic assisted lift cylinders to help lift the clip, i have lightened up my panels but kept rigidity in them and I will be keeping the inner fenders attached. Any ideas would be appreciated. Also looking to find the right hinge system for this as well.

some info in the post here on GMSB. Search here and google is your friend. The fewer the words the better. Such as squarebody tilt front clip. Don't search "how to diy squarebody tilt the front clip".

I honestly think all the words "how to the and sometimes diy" limit or skew your results. Don't ask a question when searching the internet, use key words only. Sorry in advance, you may have known that already. If anything, others will see it and learn.

I'm interested in this because I have been planning to do this to the tuff truck because why not lol. Would look cool when opened
I've wanted to do it cuz it'd be easier to work on for us old "vertically challenged" folks.

My friend did it to his truck. I'm not any help on how he did it, It was 15 years ago. I can't remember if his bumper moved with everything else or not, and don't recall how he latched it.

What I do remember is the inner fenders were removed, and the hood and fenders were a unit. It was cool, and you could sit on the tires to work on the engine.

Here's what I've come up with some far. Gotta cut the fends as so because I'm leaving the inner fenders in but need it to clear the crap on my firewall.

I'm still kinda on the fence about cutting them there but that's the only way to get the clearance for heater box which has been modified to delete the A/C portion of it. But I'm now wondering about my brake booster. Will have to take a look into that tonight.

I had no problem with mine so far, brake booster clears heater box clears since i have no air conditioning. I cut mine like the video i posted, but the way your pic shows is a lot better. If your using your stock wheel fender u need to either cut them in half or diagonally to clear your brake booster and heater box. Posting a pic with 2 cuts u need to see which cut will work best for you.

Those are the cuts I'm planning. Going
from the bottom edge on the fenders cut straight across the inner fenders as well as cutting out some of the inner fenders to clear my rad support I will be making next. The one picture is my modified non-A/C box. I think that will clear the brake booster with some modified brake lines. In the end there is going to be alot of customization needed but it will work.

So far so good, what i would do is bolt your fenders to the rad support and bolt the hood on and get your hinges working and lined up to the rest of the cab before u make any cuts to the fenders. If you don't want to cut the fenders, you can make the whole tilt front end slide forward and then tilt with your bumper mounted. Here is a video showing you everything. If you got the time and want a good job don't rush it and it will come out amazing.
