Well, it's not exactly plug & plug .. !
The Oem truck oil pump pickup tube not jibing with the boat oil pan ..
Going to need the Mercruiser tube ...

Seems that the Mercruiser pump pickup tube (pn 809772T) is not to be had ... Can't even order it, no longer being made ...
Going to try using a aftermarket tube.. ??

Took two pickup tubes to get it sitting where I wanted it to ...
The first was to short, had a 15/16" gap ..

Second one was a bit to long, but with some bending got it where it will work okay ...

Next items to nail down are the crank oil scrapper, windage plates and the main cap bolts ...

Hoping the aluminum pan has room for the two windage trays ..
Won't know till the install takes place ..

Found the studs and the GM windage plate, their on the way to me from my hometown in Kentucky ..

Moving right along with the build !!

Question is: Is lower end oil control worth all the hassles and expense ??

Well, according to the racing legends it's good for 15 to 25 more ponies ..

So many more parts are on the 'to get' list ...

1) Cam & lifters: Xtreme Energy 230 / 236 by Comp Cams ..

2) Timing chain; Most likely it will be a Cloyes Hi-Performance double roller ..

3) 781 Casting Heads; Hadn't nailed down a set of these oval port heads just yet .. The heads that are on the motor (Peanut port) at the moment will suffice till the budget allows for ..
Be some major work to do on them and parts (O/S valves & springs) to buy ..

4) Headers; Would love to find a set of used long tube, been scouting for a set. This isn't going very well cause what I've found so far is mostly used up ..
New is on the want list ..

All these needed parts will take time to make happen, so chugging away at it will be continued ...

Got a sack full of parts on order ..
Hoping that I nailed down all the parts to get the oil pan on ...

Be a few days till the parts are here ..

Meanwhile did get the oil fill tube on line ..

The Oem windage tray and main cap bolts showed up ...

The pan fit was real good, didn't need any mods done to the pan or the tray ..
The Milodon tray and crank oil scarper are in route .. By the end of the week should have them in my greasy hands along with the timing cover and cam ..

Double roller timing chain just showed up ...

Scarper was easy to fit ...

The full Milodon stripper windage plate was not so easy ...
Getting it to fit inside the Mercruiser boat oil pan been a pain !!

No room in the pan for the front main cap windage tray studs .. Had to revert back to the stock studs ..

Took a bit of doing, did get the pan to work ..

It's a jet spray..
Kinda like a giant dishwasher ...

Does a nice job of getting the years of crud buildup off ..
Must be fairly clean to magnaflux ..
Doesn't do much for carbon buildup, did break out the sand blaster for that job ..

Got super lucky with this set of 781 heads, found no cracks and don't have a need for them to be surfaced ..

Ordered bronze guides with a 11/32" I.D. ... Got a world of work ahead of me installing the 2.25" In and 1.88" Ex O/S valves ...
Bunch of bowl & port work is on the table !! ... This work is very time consuming ..

But when the pedal hits the metal is well worth the time and effort it takes ..
Having a Seat & Guide Machine in my shop speeds up the bowl work tremendously ...

I do have the Hots for more cubes ..
Have located a 4-bolt main block ...
Be a long while before I'll be able to afford this rotating assembly ...

Takes the cubes up to 496 inches ...
That's with a 0.060" over bore ...

The rollover boring stand allows to bore one bank than the other bank ...

That's what I'm running. 781 heads with 496 rotating assembly from Slip White. I love my torque monster!
