Unless you do long drives often, I don’t think the 8 gallons is a big deal.

I’m rural and fuel prices near me are 10% higher than the Costco 45 minutes away. So the 40 gallons is nice. I filled both of the tanks the first day it was on the road, did a test drive, then topped off. It’s been about 280 miles since and the driver’s side is approaching ‘E’.

WOW! ! That is 14.xx per mile. What is your engine and and what altitude are you at? I just replaced my Rochester ***** Jet (Sorry for the non politically correct term) with an Edelbrock EFI TBI system. and I am hoping for the same. But after 300 miles, I am only getting about 6.25mpg. It was 4.12mpg. So you could say what am I complaining about, I got a 50% increase in Mileage per Gallon! ! ! ??? LOL

I know if it was a single tank on a 76 Long Bed, it was a 20 gallon. I have one of those. I bought this 76 Short bed recently with 2 tanks and they are a 16 gallon. I don't know if you could fit 20s in a short bed. And the straps may be a little off for the 16s in a long bed. See if a bed mount bolt will work to hang the straps on the tank.
Long bed could have been built with either tank. Short bed will only fit a 16 gal. Straps and brackets are the same, just mounted in a different location.

Vortec 350, sniper efi, computer controlled Holley dual sync distributor, 3.73 gears, stockish tires.

So far just an estimate, still working my way through the original fuel. It’ll take many miles to get anything accurate. I can tell you that my throttle position rarely exceeds 15%, I drive like a total grandpa under the speed limit and there are only a couple stops on the route.

Guess I’m a minority as well. I have an 87 fleetside, longbed with two 16 gallon tanks and a switch for the cargo light on the driver side, purchased two 20 gallon tanks awhile back, (assuming that’s what was under the truck) well needless to say I had to return them do to the fuel door on both sides not even close to lining up. Also the tank hangers wouldn’t line up when installed on the 20s. Probably could have fabricated some but I didn’t have time for all that. So two 16s it is.

You have to reposition the bracket for the hangers to mount the 20's. And iirc, the filler hoses are different too.

Yes your correct. If I had a little more time I would have done exactly that. It’s my daily so it had to be a quick transition. Possibly in the near future I’ll go for the 20s again since I have a 45 minute ride to work the extra 8 gallons would be a bonus.

Good info, man.
That was my concern, too. Mostly the filler necks.
Not sure if there are factory holes for the other tank brackets, but that could be a little bit of a pita, too.

Overall, probably not worth it.
Plus, it would take you out of the elite club of dual 16 galloners. :D

Iirc, the frame holes are already there for the other bracket location.

I'll take a look at mine tonight and see if mine has the holes.
