Fuel tank selector valve

Looking for some insight on restoring my dual tank set-up by replacing the selector valve with the 3 port valve and retiring the weak three line fuel pump with a 2 line fuel pump, and then eliminating the third line coming off the fuel pump....

The return line keeps your fuel system from vapor locking. If you were on the coast I'd say you could get away with it. Gilchrist is on the arid side of the mountains. I know Bend gets more than a little warm in the summer and you aren't far from there.

You can swap to the 81-91 motorized valve setup but you'll have to change the NL2 tank harness and dash switch.

If you want to keep the return line, but go with a 2 line fuel pump here's an option. Wix #33041 filter. It's a 3/8" in/out with a 1/4" return. The original use was on 71-73 Chevys and 66-67 Pontiacs.

The 3 line fuel pump was GM's solution to vapor lock. Removing it may cause fuel issues during warm weather or under heavy load.

The older six port valves with only one electrical connection are hard to find, so I ended up with one from the pick and pull. However, if this one goes bad, one option I considered is to just use two 3 port valves and switch the fuel and return lines at the same time. I doubt that the valve draws that much electrical power; however, if I wanted to be extremely cautious I could power the two valves with a relay and use a larger fuse.
