Great thread. 1/2” Pex just changed my hard slamminy 88 Suburban doors to single finger closing. It is pretty shocking how big a difference a tiny piece of plastic makes.

Thanks.

Anyone know where to get a repair panel to mount the striker bolt to? My K5 came rusted and crudely repaired when i got it... 15 years ago. LOL procrastination at it's finest!!! The dirty welds are finally breaking apart and I want to fix it right. I know many years ago there was a plate with a nut welded to the back for this type of repair but I can't find it anywhere.

https://www.classicparts.com/1988-98-Door-Striker-Nut-Plate-each/productinfo/18-6414/ this is for a gmt 400 which I dont see why you couldnt just use the striker bolt for one of them(if its different from square body) and use the plate for repair

I think I'm just going to cut an access hole across from the back side of the nut. I'll use a large washer and nut on the inside. If I do it right, I'll never have to access it again. However, being a realist, I'll have to and this'll make it easier to get back in there and fix it, again.

It'll change your life for your sure. The doors will have a crisp latch and a slight pop when you open them. Then once the Pex finds it's happy home and breaks in after a few open and closes it'll be absolutely perfect.

But wait. We prefer red neck hacks better around here. Don't come in here raining on our parade bro. I'll have to get out and dust off the ban hammer if this keeps up.

Its a very easy cheap fix. So whoever is good at math. How many squarebody slamming doors can you fix with a 5 ft stick of pex for less than $3???

What??? Did you think this was a how to fix your door thread??? It wasn't. Its a test of your mathematical skills !!!
= 1 bunch.
To be on the safe side and risk losing the stricker, I wouldn move it at all if its tight already.
I don't see anyway to remove the striker to slide it over anyway. I'd imagine its posibble, but I didn't want to move striker at all. As far as adjustment, I didn't do a thing other than place the pex over the striker as pictured and its working absolutley lovely. I now even feel a nice crisp snap when I hit the door button to get in the truck. This little cheap fix will make you think you are getting in and out of a differant truck.
Thanks HotRod. You've given me the kick in the *** i've needed to go get some pex and take care of this on Ol' Brutus, my "85 dually. I've been puttin' it of for years, believe it or not.

Just think. When I'm done people ridin' with me will be tellin' me "Hey, your truck has great pex!"

And you can keep a couple extra pieces in the glove box in case the pex wears out. 1-2 minutes to replace and you're back to having a good shutting door.

That's what I used, except mine is blue to match the interior, lol. Put it on several years ago and doors close great. No need to buy the whole striker unless yours is rusted or damaged. I bought a 1 foot piece and it will last me forever. If anyone local to me has a need for some, during our car show, I'll cut them off a couple pieces
