You'll spend as much as you need to, to get it as nice as you want it. Paint is not cheap. Even if you do all the prep, for them to shoot it, it's pricey. Have them do all the work, it could be around 10k depending on the shop. You could always cheap out and go to Maaco or Earl Scheib. Engine, transmission, bling, solid reliable runner, easily 20k. I personally don't keep tabs on what I have spent because it will be way more than I thought it would be.

Yeah, when I 1st got mine a started a spiral notebook and was writing down everything I put on it and price. I stopped doing that because it adds up quickly. I've had mine 3 years and including purchase price I bet there's almost 10k in it now. So I prefer not to keep tabs on it anymore. Lol

Sounds like me with my 5 year home reno I am just wrapping up. I didn't keep a log. It took what it took like DD said. I suppose I could go to my CC and check all the home center purchases and get an idea but why?

In some areas I won't spend as much as maybe others. I'm a minimalist so no extra bling, no expensive tire/wheel combinations, audio stuff, fancy lighting, etc. The money will be spent on creating a solid, dependable drive train and a paint job at least as good as factory and I can do that.

It's the bodywork that has me concerned. I probably could learn how to weld and do the bodywork, but I'd rather not. Sanding filling, priming, painting I am comfortable with. Mechanical I'm good to go though in this day and age, I'd probably opt for crate engine vs building my own.

I can sandblast, prep steel, make it look good, do brakes, suspension, whatever. If I spent $30k over time, it wouldn't matter. I never plan on making money on a vehicle.

I keep files on all of my rigs with the receipts on almost everything I buy for them. Let's me track purchases for warranty purposes and also give me a "build sheet" that tells me what all is in the engine, trans, differentials etc. so when something need replacing I know what I need. Year, size, and all of that. It's too easy to forget what's in them if you have a few. Also the same for the kids and grandkids cars and trucks, makes it a lot easier!! I don't really do it for the cost aspect, just to know what's there!!

I'm with you, no bling. The more stock it looks, the less likely some ******* will will want to mess with it. Reliable is my first goal as well. Everything else just falls in its place.

I keep the receipts, I just don't keep track of the money spent. Bills are paid, roof is over our heads, and no money struggles because of me. That is her only requirement, that I don't break the bank. She is cool like that

I saw this one on Craigslist that's about your price range. There are a few others in So. Cal for a bit more. Most of the sellers are asking crazy high prices out here.
