Howdy fellas! I went to fill up 79 3/4 ton chevy the other day, and it wouldnt accept fuel at all! I know it's not full because i ran out of gas in a parking lot, but i took off the rubber hose that goes from tank, to the filler neck and it was not clogged with debris. I stuck my fingers inside the tank, and i didnt feel anything. I dont know why gas wont go down into the tank (well it trickles down into it) any ideas?

Maybe that little flapper device fell off and lodged in the tank fill stub - IDK - did they even have those in 1979?

I don't know if the 79's are different or not but when my truck was still original I had a similar issue and had to get the nozzle in there just right or I'd have to baby it to get it full of gas.

I remember I had to pull the nozzle almost completely out of the filler on my 1982 to get any in. Just in far enough no gas would splash, but it would be almost completely out of the filler.

That's how my '74 K20 is, I have to hold the nozzle just right otherwise gas will spew out. Quite frustrating I must say. I'm thinking of just changing the neck so I can fill it from inside the wheel well instead.

This is another reason why I was eager to relocate my tank so that I could also get rid of the fill up issue. Your idea of relocating the filler neck inside the bed is a good one too. Think about how hard it might be to get the nozzle in there though.

That's how my auxillary tank is, although I haven't yet attempted to fill it. The guy I bought the truck from in March suggested that I should flush it first. Just looks like it would be easier, but true, might be tricky once you have a big nozzle hanging out of it :)

I have a 82 C10 Silverado that does the same. I always had certain mechanics say that it's the fuel sending unit that needs to be replace. To top it off my gas gauge needle never pass the 1/2 mark even thou I fill my tank up all the ways and it takes me about 15 mins to do that. Still haven't solve Thea problem.

I'd highly doubt it has anything to do with the fuel sending unit.

Same problem here. Annoying as all get out. Maybe I'll take the neck off and see what I can see.
