Externally mounted TFI module

Hi, I'm a new member to this group and I'm having trouble searching in the TFI ECU group, so I'll ask the question now (sorry if it has been asked before).

I don't drive my gas hog that much anymore, less than 2k miles per year, but it seems like my TFI module goes out roughly every 1-2 years. I was wondering if anyone has used an externally mounted 4 pin Tfi module for a 97-99 model instead of the standard one mounted in the distributor?

I'll admit I know just enough to be dangerous and there may be very good reasons why it wouldn't work...

Well since this is a "Squarebody" site, I'll have to admit I don't know WTH a TFI Module is. I'm guessing it's similar to an HEI module?

Its on a mustang I believe I remember fixing one on buddies car. Kinda like our ignition module.

The hei module? Ford called it a tfi(thick film ignition)

I remember I did the external pmd mount for the 6.5 TD and we did kinda same thing in his mustang with a old cpu cooler. It did make it last alot longer

Sorry, I used to play with Ford's so TFI stuck in my head. Yes the HEI module in a 77 350 Silverado. My idea started when I found the heatsink in the first picture that was slightly modified so a typical HEI 4 pin module could be mounted to it on the firewall. The 2nd pic is the module that the heatsink was designed for, so that's where I got my idea from...
