A set of injectors for a 12v aren’t actually all that bad. If I could find an 8.1 It would be sweet but they are hard to come by

They are incredibly easy to come by, especially for the price of some of this other stuff people are throwing around lol. I only paid 4500 for my entire truck lol.

Like I said, about 1500 bucks,

Well I think you guys have talked me into an 8.1/4l80 combo. I’ve done some research and this seems to be the best option for me.

Cummins is probably cheaper then a good crate engine and FI. And well it's a Cummins is why....but I'd mate it to a 4L80 not a Dodge transmission.
I have yet to see a thread exactly like this so I figured I’d start it. So this winter I am going to swap the motor in my truck. The truck is an 87 k20. I’ve narrowed down what I want down to 3 options. 1) crate 350 or 383 with aftermarket efi, 2) 6.0 and 4l80, 3) Cummins with dodge overdrive trans. The truck is just a driver and will occasionally pull a trailer but not a huge one. If I go with a gas motor I will probably get 350-400 hp out of the motor. If I go Cummins I probably will leave it relatively stock and just turn it up some. I want it to have good road manners and I don’t have a huge budget to do all this. So what would you do and why.

Sorry to ask such a noob question..
What difference has been 350 engine near 1985? Some "crate" engines are for pre 1985, some are from 1987 on... My Blazer K5 is 1986...?

In 87 they went to TBI, TBI heads have the center bolts at a different angle than the earlier heads. I believe all heads with center bolt valve covers have the different angle. You can take a die grinder and clearance it out and the early style intake will fit the later style heads.
