Yup when I was younger I studied a Chilton and gun manuals and I have a few that were my dad and grandfathers that I still reference
X2. I still have the 1983 chevy truck chilton that my older brother gave me when I bought my '79 in high school.

I'll have to get a pic of my reference library when I get home. The multiple binders I put togetther for just the M1008 are reasonably impressive. Something around 1000 pages between for big binders.

OK old guy here. Starting out first car was a 56 4dr hardtop 210. 265 converted to a 3 spd with a CONTINENTAL KIT. Almost everything was wrong 4 DOORS C-KIT, God what a loser. anyway had to rebuild the 265 that summer in my folks garage, took 3 months. The block had a can on it so the canisters were on 56's The 55's had a remote can up top by the oil fill tube. Can you imagine what the C-Kit would be worth now!!!

So I'm not the only one that reads Chilton manuals and factory service manuals just for the hell of it? That's good to know.

The 5 binders in the upper right pertain exclusively to the m1008. If you want to count the GM 6.2 service manual on the second shelf it would be 6 total, but the GM manual is geared towards the civilian 6.2, though.

Identifying and old useless engine which we did on page one then it took a new direction. All conversations turn to big blocks one way or another.:D
That poor op is getting the internet version "old guys at the feed store/hardware store/parts store.

Anywho, I think 11:1 in a 496 is streetable with aluminum heads and adequate cooling.

Cool. I replaced one of those suckers in a customer's car once, with a good used one. I wanted to take the old junk one apart to see what made it tick, but they wanted it back for a core.

Cool. I replaced one of those suckers in a customer's car once, with a good used one. I wanted to take the old junk one apart to see what made it tick, but they wanted it back for a core.
This will be right around number 20 or so that I’ve rebuilt. It’s going in a 92 Cabriolet that’s right a Rabbit convertible lol for his wife. He just picked up an 83 GTI that’s gonna get a built by me 1.8t

The 348 was known around here as a boat anchor. Undo a rod at the crank and slip a chain through, bolt it together and you are good to go.

The 348/409 were great pulling engines, but 5000 rpm was their limit. There was an outfit in the San Fernando Valley that machined them for a later model BB crank and could get some big cubes, while fixing their rpm problem.
