I have an 84 Sierra C2500, base model, and it came from California but didn't have the emissions stuff on it. I'm living in Northern Arizona right now, but thinking of moving to Tucson. If the truck didn't come with the emissions stuff, I shouldn't have to add it if they have requirements for it in Tucson, should I? I removed the EGR as it wasn't hooked up anyways, and running duals with mufflers only(350/TH400). Thanks

I think the heavier trucks were emission exempt. Does the truck still have the emission label decal under the hood on the core support? It would show what the truck had installed at the time it was built. Your statement about the truck not having the emission equipment on it, do you mean it never was built with it, or was it removed. If it was built with the emission equipment, yes it would be required. In a lot of states they don't check for the emission equipment on the old trucks.

I'm in Southern Arizona. The state is emissions exempt except for the Phoenix & Tucson Metro areas. So, yes you must have the factory emissions the truck came with in order to register it.

Is there a statute of limitations for that, or a year that a vehicle is exempt?

Yes. Once it's old enough to be designated as a "Vintage" it can be registered as such. There are limitations on its use and how many miles it can "legally" be driven.

I think here in WA state, the collectors plate is 20 or 25 years. There is supposed to be a limit on mileage as well, and my pickup isn’t supposed to haul anything in the bed. Ha, good luck enforcing any of that. I’ve broken every one of those rules.
