I’m fine with under $100 but like standard hei distributors were like 160 and some other brands like cardone or something were upwards of $200 and this isn’t a race truck or even a traveling truck it’s just an old beater work truck that I just need to run. Also speaking of fuel pump, two or three line? How can I tell what the truck is supposed to have? It currently has a two line and the one removed appeared to be a two line. Could the truck possibly need a 3 line because it’s getting too much fuel buildup without a return?(assuming a return is the third line). The distributor I have in my cart is like 55 just a generic cheapo one. It’s description makes it out to be a ready to run unit including everything. My personal opinion the physical distributor can’t have much go wrong on it, being just a slot at bottom with a gear on it. But the weights and everything else might not be good. Also the vac advance would be questionable. But I already think my vac advance is questionable. I couldn’t suck hard enough for visible movement.

you technically can but it requires the pictures to be on a website already and then dragged into the comment. you can use imgur but thats also adding a lot of steps.
you could make an imgur file and then link it ,would allow you to post a bunch and then I could then browse the collection

The pump is going to pump once every two crank rotations. It is pumped by a single lobe on the cam, and the cam only rotates 180 degrees for every 360 degrees of crank rotation. Are you pulling the choke off a bit when the engine starts? You said you tried giving it more throttle, but did you push off the choke just a bit and see if the engine rpm comes up? It will run like hell if you are trying to warm it up with the choke fully on. A normal OEM automatic choke will be fully applied until the engine starts, then a vacuum actuated pull-off will open the choke a set amount(its 3/16" on my quadrajet I think).

@Bextreme04 that was with choke fully open, when I tried to choke some it would bog down so I left it open. I’m going to take photos now. Is there anything specific or just a little bit of everything

The photos of engine bay were before I touched the distributor. In my opinion it looks like it’s in the right area to run, especially considering it did run not long ago

snap a pic that shows your spark plug wires better, i think your #2 wire is where #1 wire should be, and kind of unsure your firing order is not correct 18436572 is what it should be, the hot wire seems to have corrosion as well, and whats with the blue connector stuck in the cap?

edited to add, It would be nice to be able to see from each side of the engine all of the plug wires as well as where they are at on the distributor, from factory the number 1 wire is clocked where your #2 cylinder wire is, but if the distributor has ever been removed than all bets are off as #1 can be anywhere

I know exactly where #1 is, the connector at the front right of distributor. And the firing order is correct finishing with #2 being by the coil connector. It’s dark and storming now so can’t really get more photos but I’ll try and pinpoint on a photo where #1 is

No it was tach wire. The wire with orange tape is ignition wire.

Hmmm, if you got it started without any choke and it bogs down when any choke is applied.... I'd say you are running pig rich at idle or very lean. Have you been able to adjust your idle mixture yet? What are the idle mixture screws set at? I believe the edelbrock manual says to screw them all the way in(clockwise) until they lightly bottom out and then unscrew them 1-1/2 turns as a good starting baseline.

I believe I had it leaned down with a vacuum gauge to around 1-1/4 turn out, I started at full in then back out two turns. I had everything dialed in that day it was running great. If I had the interior in it I probably would’ve tried driving it around the yard. It hasn’t started since. I do have brand new plugs on the way, I decided to hold off on the distributor. I looked into it and the vacuum advance piece should be replaceable. So if it is determined as a functional distributor I’ll try to just replace that vac advance canister thing. The only thing I never “dialed in” on the carb was float height I have yet to obtain a 7/16 drill bit but I reckon I’ll just use a tape measure to get it over with and make sure it’s right. I also never set the choke high idle screw to where exactly it needs to be since my tach kinda freaks out. Not sure if that’s on distributor end or tach end. It’s a cheapo tach(~$25) but the one I got for my 87 has always worked fine but this tach in the k10 just kinda bounces around with ignition on, it moves so fast from like 0-500 rpms that it looks like a blur and it just bounces there for a little bit before returning to 0 or whatever rpm it claims to be at

Also the day I tried to start it the temperatures were up to 70, granted two days later and it’s thirty again… tuesday I had shorts and a shirt sleeve on and yesterday was a bundled up kinda day, Tennessee weather lol 70-35 over night, literally
