I’d rather stick with the current bed setup, I just need a fuel door on drivers side and some way to make it easier to put fuel in the truck, if it wasn’t as angled down it wouldn’t be too bad but it’s slightly down and you can’t get a funnel in there
you need a funnel like mine

I cut the built in restriction off the end on mine and i can fill it Kinda fast with a gas can but thats also over this:

my grandpa put a Passenger only 79-82 or whatever bed on his truck which was dual tanks.

When the pass tank had issues, whatever the first one was(fuel neck was rotted and a hole in the tank when I got in the picture), he naturally carved open the fender well and tied up the neck inside there and then used a tunnel to fill the tank. Obviously. Lol, being he didnt drive it off the property anymore at that point im sure he did the quickest thing and just said **** it. Which is annoying as he has left a lot of evidence of that in his life but thats neither here nor there.

Did someone address the OP has both a fuel filter on the inlet to the pump and on the outlet to the carb? That seems like it would work a pump since it has to pull all that way and then push up , just a thought.

Also the vacuum line to the PCV and the vac advance look squishybut not sure if that would cause the issues he faces.

Whats up with your throttle cable? it looks like it both could easily be getting kinked/in a bind or maybe stretched. I dont recaall a bare wire being visible with a closed throttle. Those springs maybe overpowered the cable since its a Long ass stretch?

I don’t think the tanks have the filler in a different spot or a different diameter between the years. I think the hoses are different shapes and lengths because the spot on the bed is different.

to my understanding 81+ has a larger opening (not including diesel) which is also higher thasn 78 and older but 79-80 are the same height. the tank 81+ is different, and the very least it would demand looking into. Hes kinda needing all the components in order for it to be seamless or not bottle neck or possibly need to adapt, at least how i see it

@AuroraGirl the filter between the pump and carb is going away ASAP, it was just to make do for time being and I just haven’t taken it out yet. And the throttle cable is the same as when I got the truck, it moves easily, the springs were originally connected to the throttle cable bracket in the back but with it connected back there you really had to shove your foot down to get throttle. I moved it to forward so the pedal was easier to press. If the throttle cable needs replaced I need to replaced something in the spedo cable too. I have verified the gauge working via a drill on the other end of the cable but with everything all together the speedometer works a day or so then it doesn’t, I got it working again the first time by pressing it into back if gauge a little more. The spedo cable is tight and I guess movement and flexing made it have to go somewhere and it pulled out of the gauge. Also this truck has a brand new 20ga tank I have no idea from what year but if what you say about differences I’d assume the right year? Since I was able to put this junky filler neck on it. I’m not like too concerned with it because I’m trying to get a flat bed or utility bed on it ASAP for work

are you able to remove one spring and then manually pull the throttle and see if it snaps back? If it goes back ok, i would run with one

This isnt a pressing issue, so dont be overwhelmed. this is just a recommendation for future:

ive found the edelbrock spring bracket to be really nice since you just put it under an intake bolt
Also if you see my cable youll notice the plastic sheath that i was refering to, not sure what it means for yours but i would plan a cable in the somewhat distant future as well.

note: my carb has a 2barrel linkage bracket, it is not correct for what i should have.

I can go investigate that cable, and see if that cover piece is just slid back some. I’ll take some pictures

I noticed the bad spot in the cable but it’s not in a bind or anything, and the cable might be slightly stretched, it is kinda loose. I tried to change the starter bolts to the new ones I got but one of them wouldn’t thread in very far, I compared it to the old ones and the old style were more rounded on the beginning thread I guess to get it started easier. New one that wouldn’t thread was just square. It currently has a new bolt closer to oil pan and an older bolt on outside. The new bolts came with washers that wouldn’t fit over the knurl…

The starter has been acting fine I just figured do the bolts since I had them, I wonder if the grinding was retarded timing firing the engine backwards? Or is that not so likely? Also the buddy I got carb from mentioned a license plate light… how, what, uhm, there’s a circle like there once was a light there but nothing now.. right now I still have the tail light wiring apart and I was wondering if there’s some kinda simple wire in universal plate light

Choke cable installed, not in permanent position.. it’s just a mock up but the knob is kind of difficult to pull out and push in, it’s not as smooth as I’d like

iirc the license plate light in my tail light harnesses came off the part that "splits off" for each side and its black or brown and i cant rememeber if the ground wire came from the harness or if it grounded to the mounting spot on the bumper.

is that a proper z bend? And your cable sheath was cut too far back. Your sheath should be as long as possible without interfering witb the cable. otherwise the cable is trying to kink or bind up the open areas.also your cable appears to have excess length in it, but i cant tell where its going to after the pic. ultimately thats your choice kinda thing. but glad you have it for now, you at least can physically dictate choke now.

i woudl think the washers are for shimming maybe? never heard of the washer thing. Also the bolt that wont thread, I would try to thread it in with the starter off, because the threads like you said may be just a little particular.
