Got these at Wal-Mart for about $15. Worked for my 82 c10. Fits dome,taillights or reverse lights.

Derek/blue ox------I and probably others were not aware of
Polarity in LED straight line bulbs, such as dome lights. I don't
feel bad because most auto parts store counter people don't
Know either. I learned this today. I tried the bulb one way and
It did not light up. Turned it end for end and it lit. Thanks Derek.

I swapped the bulb in my dome light with another that i didnt realize was a bigger wattage, its super bright but i cant remember the number is. Hes saying that an 1157 fits the dome, idk if its different from 78 to 87 but i know the base of my dome bulb is not as big as an 1157

Jerry, glad I could help and that you got it resolved.

For the Gen I truck crowd, your dome lights seem to use bayonet type bulbs. The post '80 trucks use a double ended "festoon" type bulb. They can be faced either way, and since diodes only work in one direction polarity is an issue.

Got the same problem. Trying to source a reliable dome light exactly like that one. Following.

I got an LED from superbrightleds.com but I'm sure you can find one anywhere. The circuit board on the one from superbright was a tick too long. I got it to fit, but it could be trimmed if necessary. It's sure better than that festoon bulb. Those fuggers get HOT!

But as the OP discovered LEDs are polarity sensitive, so just be aware when you install it.
