Also I completely agree with this thinking and what @Bextreme04 is saying.speed limit on highways was 55mph back then. you'd be amazed at the mpg you can get driving 55mph, even in a brick, compared to cruising at 70-75+ mph today.
Also besides the wind drag there is gear ratio to consider. I'm sure the truck in the ad has a high ratio so it would effect that truck less, but for guys with 4.10's and no over drive with factory height tires your turning 2,400RPM at 55 MPH. Already past the RPM you'd likely see the best mileage at. But at 70 MPH you'd be turning almost 3,200RPM, great for power, that RPM could be held all day by a SMC and power production would be great, but it drink gas at those RPMs. So just another little bit of food for thought....
