Dash pads

I thought I was seeing double. There is another thread just like this one I think started yesterday?

Are you talking about the PVC type plastic covers or a real dash pad or basically a whole new dash?

I have a Coverlay brand dash cover. It's thin plastic. I have not had it for n quite a year. I love it. Made the truck look 100x better. Can't believe I waited so long to install it. I think it's worth every penny at this point. Maybe 3 to 5 years latter my opinion may change? I don't know? I will say that you would not want to put one Ina complete restoration truck nor a show truck but for pretty much anything else they are perfect.

In my experience the best quality, best fitting dash pads are from Cheyenne Chevy trucks parts. They’re not cheap $300 ish, but they’re good quality

Again are we talking real dash pads as in the whole padded part that's screwed to the metal frame or the thin plastic cover things?

Pads are usually what they call the whole dash that bolts in the truck. Covers are what they call the thin things that go over the pad.

If your talking the whole dash pad $300 seems like a good price.

Ok that $370 price is more inline with what I thought they cost.

I put a cheap plastic cover in mine because I do not have a show truck and am not restoring one so I did not want to put that kind and of money into a dash pad that will just crack up again in 6-10 years. So I spent about 30-35% of what one of the replacement pads cost.

picked up one today that looks hideous. Cracks all over....but I bought it to attempt to repair. More to come in another post near you.

I beleive the USA-1 pads are the best... heard a lot of very good things about them on "other" forum. I will probably replace my '86's dash with one. here in the desert I have to be mindful of the quality & material due to the heat! I too am in the process of trying to "repair" my original dash - first time using fiberglass! lol we'll see how it goes, figure no loss if I suck at it... lol

Just make sure you put enough hardener in it or else it will either take forever to harden or never will and be a gooey mess

I went with USA 1 Industries and absolutely love it.

Only problem I had was the dash clips they sent didn't go onto the pad. I just used the ones from the old pad and it went right in.

Will try USA 1 Industries dash pad if my repair to original dash pad doesn't work out.

I installed one from Cheyenne Pickup Parts last year. It's a real pad, not a plastic cover. It is made of padded vinyl bonded to a plastic base, not metal. It looks very nice, except for the defroster vents don't fit snugly to the top of the dash, and that part of the cover is not clipped to the dash like the OEM cover. Finally, the screw hole on the left top corner of the instrument cluster is right on the edge of the cover, and I expect I will have to reinforce the hole if I remove the cover again. The manufacturer should have used more thick plastic in that location. Vinyl looks decent and can be made to look good for months if I use Mequiar's Leather & vinyl cleaner. Products like Armor-all will not soak in enough and only last a few hours in the sun.
