Dash light question (Is there a bulb back there?)

Dash light question

84 Chevy K10 95% stock.

Looking at my dash, the right side of the fuel gauge is dim. It makes me think there is a bulb out.

Question for anyone who has pulled the dash apart.

Are there light bulbs back there?

Anything special I should know before I dig into this?

There is a bulb in that area. They should be in a small black holder that twists into the cluster. Turn it 90 degrees, and it will pull out. Not positive, but I believe it is a 194 bulb. You should be able to get to it without pulling the cluster.

Yes, there is a bulb somewhere around the 2 o'clock position behind the fuel gauge. It isn't hard to access and might be a good time to upgrade with LEDs for better visibility.

A #168 bulb will give you half again as much light as a #194. 3 candlepower instead of 2. Exact same base. That's the old school way of upgrading the cluster lights, before LEDs were a thing.

LED lights or the full cluster?

LED lights. With a pack of new leads in my lap while sitting behind the steering wheel, I can have the bezel and the gauge cluster out in about 10 minutes. The less are pretty inexpensive too. From there it is as simple as unplugging the old bulbs and installing the new. You can also swap out the light for the HVAC at the same time.
