I despise sanding, already had to replace the compressor electric motor. I decided to try the harbor freight heat gun. Not sure if it’s because of the solar eclipse, the air temp, luck or all three but the 5 extra layers for the most part is scraping off fairly clean with some heat AND it’s so much easier and cleaner than sanding. Plus, my compressor should last a lot longer. I hope the rest of the panels go this well. I did this much in about 2 hours.

Good grief! And 5 DIFFERENT colors to boot!
What’s the original color? (Out of curiosity).

Yea, lots of paint, I think seven different colors; originally Tangier orange.
If I didn’t know better I’d think it may have been one of my past buddy’s trucks. He worked auto body at the time and also beat the hell out of this new truck he bought. So he was always painting something. Either fixin whiskey dents or giving it a new color scheme. Bet there were parts of that truck that had 5+ different coats of paint on it within 3 years!

You going back Tangier orange? Love that color especially with a white stripe.

I went with Hugger orange single stage paint rather than safety orange. I’m two toning it using the top and bottom two tone, easier to paint rather than the middle stripe two tone. Also gonna paint the hood white with a couple sport stripes.

The last time I needed to strip a vehicle at my house, due to the amount of mess and dust it would have created, I used a 5"
DA hooked up to a 20 gallon vacuum cleaner and honestly, never looked back. My Snap On air compressor powered DA has not been used in 10 years. I swear it paid for itself not having run the big compressor in the first job.

I didn’t use any chemicals to remove the paint, only a razor blade scraper and a little bit of heat. I again was lucky with the tailgate and heat was direct sunlight.
