If he had the timing set 180 out, he would have had to pull and re-stab the distributor.

I have an 82 C10 with the same issues. I replaced the starter, alternator, ignition switch, ignition coil and ignition control module. I have also bypassed the ESC wires going to the distributor and have the module unplugged under the dash as well. The truck still just cranks and will not start. I have no idea where to go next. Any help would be appreciated.

Also I have replaced the cap and rotor and plugs and wires as well too.

Have you checked the carb to make sure it’s putting out fuel and pulled a wire and plug, grounded them, and checked for spark?

or just put a timing light on it and look for light while it cranks. Quicker test for spark through the wire.

I have pulled a wire and plug and had it grounded and there was no spark. There is fuel pumping into the carb

Make sure you’re getting 12V to the distributor at the wire that plugs into it on the driver side. I wouldn’t worry with the ESC stuff at this point. If you’re getting power there, I’d take your new module and have it tested. I’ve had an AC Delco fail straight out of the box before.

So odd thing I went down and tried to start the truck and it started it ran for a min or two and then died and would not start back up.

Although that’s never happened to me, they can fail once they heat up. Make sure they test it multiple times so it gets hot. Go with the AC Delco module. MasterPro, Duralast, etc. are good spares to have but trash for a full time module.

I had the module tested and it was good and so was the old one. I replaced the fusible link as well that goes from the firewall to the distributor just in case that was the issue but no go. I had the battery fully charged today to see if it also made any difference and nothing. I went back and took the cap and everything off to make sure that everything was connected good and it was and tried to start it again but still no start. I am not sure where to go next, except maybe taking it to a shop.

Then you really have two more things to check, one of them mentioned above and what I’m suspecting the most and then the HEI coil, which is super easy to test. Really no need for a shop to get involved at this point. See the tests for them below.

So had it taken to a shop and turns out that it was the ESC module that was bad. They threw in a distributor from a pre-ECS vehicle and starts right up every time. Thank you all for all the help. Next, I need to tune my carb as it idles like crap even before all this. Does anyone know if someone has a topic started on the Rochester qjet 4 barrel
