It is really hard to call these years by any special name. The '66 was on it's own, '67-'73 were the best of the bunch. The post war trucks had many changes and then changed completely in 54-55. The GMCs were quite a bit different from the Chevys back then, also.

I see all the ones after 87 through 98 referred to as OBS (meaning Old Body Style) which always makes me laugh considering they aren't that old, and not as old as squares.

I ran into some nosepicker in a parts store that thought the gmt400 trucks were square bodies. I had to break it to him that no, the trucks BEFORE the gmt400 that were actually SQUARE are what are know as square bodies.

67-72 are "Glamour trucks"
73-87 are "Rounded Line" why? No idea, it was GM internal designation.
This Squarebody thing started sometime in the mid to late 80s when people referred to the differences in the 73-79/80 and the 80/81-87(91). The first time I heard it in a dealership was in 88/89 the service manager was having a hissy fit over a fender for an 87. The part came in for newer style vs older style.

OBS NBS NNBS are :supergay: acronyms weak....

They are supposed to be using carbon fiber for the bed. When you drive a truck why would you expect gas mileage?

That thing is fugly. Reminds me of my ex- mother in law, full of attitude and high maintenance but useless and I couldn't imagine somebody wanting to be inside it.

So we have Square Bodies and I have heard 67-72s called Action Lines, but what are 88-98, 99-06, and 60-66. Just wondered. I'm sure some of us probably have some select names for the new trucks...well wanna be trucks.

First its government mandate to meet their mileage requirements across the company. On a side note, why is wrong to want better mileage from a truck? If you could drive your truck and get 25mpg instead of 8 without sacrificing performance why would you want to waste the money? If my truck could get 35mpg like my dd instead of 8-10, Id drive it the 80 miles a day to and from work.
