Truck looks better than you described it!
First thing I would do is see if the gears in the axles have been changed or not, to acommodate the larger tires, then make sure the carburetor is in order, Maybe a pro rebuild. Then a full AC Delco tune up.
If the gears have not been changed to a lower gear ratio, that may be where a big portion of your fuel is going.
Yessir, as it stands the previous owner knew little about the truck other than it having 4.10's and detroits. As I have done some research on the internet I have started drooling at the concept of 1 ton axles. My intentions are to step up to 42's(especially if I can get them in an 18 wide). I love me some rediculous wide tires. I fear going into deeper gears on these axles as that may be enough torque to finally do these axles in.
The Carb seems to be in good working order as it looks brand new. The rotor cap had what looked like calcium buildup on 'em. I chipped it all off with a pocket knife and it helped alot but perhaps I'll start a different thread with some more elaborate information as well as some questions I have that google simply can't answer.
