My carb seems to be getting gunked up lately and stalling at idel.

I've been considering swapping my Edelbrock carb for the Holley Sniper EFI. Any thoughts ?

I have a buddy converting his corvette over after fiddling with his qjet and never getting it not to be so rich it burnt your eyes. haha

He bought the whole sniper kit because he went to school with a guy that works there at Holley now and he was planning to stop by one weekend and help us install it. It came with new EFI, all the wiring, new fuel lines, tank, pump, everything so it should be just a matter of bolting it in.

I can tell you more after but all those parts look cool sitting on the shelf right now. :)

From personal experience, Holley Sniper is the biggest piece of **** ever produced! Biggest headache I've ever had and I'm not alone. Peruse the Sniper forum on the Holley website before you buy. I've done my Civic duty and warned you. Now, consider spending your hard earned money on something that actually works and has a proven record and look at the Edelbrock Pro-flo. In the end, the cost is almost the same and you'll have a much better system.

If you have any thoughts of swapping to an electronic od transmission you may want to consider the dominator or IIRC Terminator as they have the capability to control the transmissions.

The one additional problem to overcome is how to work the EFI with your dual fuel tanks. There are multiple possible solutions and costs can vary quite a bit. Some of the options for just getting reliable feed from a stock tank are also very expensive, like the Holley fuel mat that starts out at about $145 for each tank.

I've considered using something like the FiTech Command Center 2 surge tank, since I could leave all my dual tank plumbing in place and put the FiTech Command Center between the stock fuel pump and the new EFI. Its not a cheap alternative, but really not that expensive when you compare it to buying a new EFI inline fuel pump and/or a fuel mat or baffled tank. If I used two in-tank EFI pumps the cost is probably more than the Command Center.

I doubt it , these x2 some wiring, some hoses, maybe a new $100 switch valve. How much is that command center?....Oh and you may need to check your tank anyway make sure its not rusted and dirty,

I used the Edelbrock remote sump mounted inside front fender. Retained all factory dual tank setup. Hook the sump to the OEM mechanical pump and done. Again Edelbrock knows thier ****. It will eventually feed an LS transplant or pro-flo. Will never own a Holley system again.

Search for Facebook groups for Edlebrock efi, FiTech, etc., many of these new "self tuning" kits are having various mechanical and support issues. That's not to say do buy one, just make sure you are a very informed buyer so you know what you're getting. There are some guys on CK5 having serious issues with a couple of brands.

I'd stay away from the Edelbrock E street EFI (throttle body). Doesn't work well with a stock cam. Seems to be geared more for a muscle car with a high idle and a big cam.

I've heard the pro-flo is good... probably swap out to that someday.

Edelbrock recently announced they are no longer making tbi units. I immediately regretted spending over a grand on my Sniper after having run a TPI (Pro-flo) for years. Throttle response was like watching toilet water. The dry manifold makes a huge difference in seat of the pants feel. In the end, the cost difference is irrelevant. Did I mention Sniper is the biggest piece of **** ever produced?

This is unfortunate----how so many are having problems with fuel injection kits and how they still don't seem to be hitch-free/bolt on at this point. (The possible exception MIGHT be Howell, but even them...........)

Looks like i will STILL be sticking with carbs for a while. EVERY carb swap i've made into the truck has worked hitch-free (5 so far) with the exception of the last one, but that's minor, is solvable, and works 98% of the time.

And this is coming from someone who believes and has believed that fuel injection is superior to carbs.

Regarding Holley vs. Edelbrock etc.:

At this point, i would be more likely to lean towards brock. Based on my previous experiences, i think brock generally makes good products.

But i noticed, even on the instructional/sales videos Edelbrock tends to go into way more detail than Holley. Holleys a big company and they have the money----why don't they take more time and show more detail (as well as taking the time to actually get their product right)?

i think they'd sell more product this way?

Maybe it's "management?"

There are advantages and disadvantages between a carb and fuel injection. For me, my truck is primarily used to backroads and/or off roading trips.

My carb couldn't adapt when I would get to 9000', it would starve for fuel when going up very steep hills, then try to flood when going down very steep bumpy trails. With the fuel injection this isn't an issue.

However my engine's idle is supposed to be set to 650 RPM. Even with the idle screw backed ALL the way out my idle is at 850. When it gets hot it likes to surge or when at partial idle it likes to surge. This is horrible when I"m in 4 low. Edelbrock wasn't much help solving with these issues.

The whole kit was well made, and the documentation is good. I like their software on a tablet- I can easily keep an eye on things with it. Their product just doesn't work well with my engine. Does it work better than my carb? Yes, but still a bit disappointed.

The dry manifold of the pro flow would be a huge advantage for me in the winter when the engine is cold. I still have fuel puddling issues for the first few minutes with my current setup.

I bought the full Holley efi kit for another truck.
Bolted on, started right up and didnt have any issues.
There was a little fine tuning with fuel ratios when cold but nothing major.

I’m going to put it on my new truck shortly.
Id recommend it if your sick of tuning carbs.
