Ok, went to put my distributor in today and after I got it all back together. It won't start. Did it the right way. Pulled #1 plug, pulled the distributor, turned the motor over with a breaker bar til I felt my thumb being blown off, slowly cranked it to where the timing mark lined up with "0" on the timing tab, put the distributor back in with rotor bug pointing at #1, put cap back on, put wires back on(triple checked them on the firing order), went to start it, and it cranked and cranked but never started. Thought it was 180 out, so I redid it all. Still got it to only crank. Not start and run. Any suggestions??

Do you have any kind of spark? If you do, check fuel. pump the carb and see if you see it squirting, if not, then check pump delivery.

Ok, I will do that. I've tried starting it 8 times, not holding the key forward for any longer than 10 secs, pumping the gas pedal as well. Should I see any fuel in the fuel filter? Even if it hasn't started.

there should be fuel in the filter yes. Check spark, you can either use an old plug(thats good) or you can use a screwdriver.
Or was there no fuel ever?

There was fuel. The car has been sitting since may, with the intake off and carb off. I just put the intake and carb back on today. I also put new plugs in it as well. The wires are good as well. The coil should be good too. There should be fuel in the tank. It ran before I took of the manifold.

Ok, if youve done all this, im sure you know how to check spark... Do that befor anything else, if its getting fuel to the carb, im gonna guess its not gett spark. If theres spark, then mabey theres crap in the fuel inlet to the carb.
My top thought is spark.....

And there isn't any fuel in the fuel filter. So I'm guessing its not getting fuel.

If theres no fuel in the filter. Then im gonna guess its your pump.

Dump some fuel in the carb, and down the fuel line to the pump to prime it, then if it starts, the higher engine rpm may do the trick to get everything moving again.

Ok should I dump it in the jets closet to the cab or the ones closest to front of the truck?

Front barrels, then crack them open to let the fuel go into the manifold.

What he said! Iv had to do this a number of times on something that's been sitting, even my El Camino :)

A trick my gpa has done before is stick an air gun (or whatever theyre called... things that blow air from your air compressor) and "prime" the gas tank by blowing some air in it. Make sure to seal around your gun or the air will just come back out.

Be careful... you could turn your 15 gallon fuel tank into a 17 gallon pretty easy...

Ok, today I went ahead and checked connections on the starter. The ground post was loose. So I tightened it up and reconnected the wire. Got up top and took the fuel line off of the carb, filled it up till the fuel filter was half full. Poured about an ounce of gas in the front barrels of the carb, open the flap up so the fuel would go into the mani. Went to fire it up, and it still just turned and turned. No running. Took a look at the filter and it was empty. Dumb question, will the motor crank and crank and not start if the coil is bad?
