He posts in Ohio too. I've never called him because I ASSumed he wanted top dollar for everything.
Yeah too far from me even if he was fair on the price so I didn't bother calling. Now I am starting to get curious enough to call though. lol

Not sure this fits this thread but if any of you are near this guy it might be a good source of parts. I didn't call but he's in PA advertised down here in KY.

We have a dude near here in the KC area, too. Dude wants 750 for a longbed and at least 1000 for a short bed. Fella is high as a kite with his prices. Not sure how he ever sells anything. Not sure what he prices everything else at but just his beds are way out of control LOL

With those prices in Michigan, he would sell out in 15 minutes flat.

So I've been sporadically perusing craigslist for 396 engines. They are pricey even as short blocks, just the block, and a complete engine in unknown condition can run anywhere from $750 to $3,000.

Enter rebuilt 396, $2,500, ready to run...
https://slo.craigslist.org/pts/d/paso-robles-396-bbc-engine-rebuilt-big/6938234503.html

I contacted the seller and this engine is being sold this weekend. But they/he will be building more in the future. He gave me his number, so I will be checking back in a few months. Crusty Biscuit, with those 3.54 gears going in this year will really like the added torque of the 396. Heck, with the 396, and the torque-splitter-overdrive making the 3.54 into 2.58 may just work, where the 350 would struggle pushing that high of a gear. 2.58 is horrible for a towing gear, but good for highway cruising. The 350 is only good at handling the 3.54 top gear.

You probably don't want to here this, but if you lived closer I'd give you a 396 Long Block. You would need to rebuild it....but free is a good start on price.

And if I lived closer I'd bring you over a few cases of beer and some bottles of whiskey to take you up on that offer. Heck, if we had a trip to Texas planned in the near future I would make a special trip over to meet you and take you up on that offer.

My wife is cool! I've been telling her the plans I've had for a long time with the '65 build. And starting this weekend the list of items to do will start getting shorter on it. It was originally going to be a vortec 350, but then I got to thinking a 396 would be sweet. Last year when I started searching for the frame bracket for the Dana 60 rear axle, I talked to a guy that owned one of those C20 Suburbans and he said the gas mileage was great because of the 396 and the 3.54 gears. With that in mind, my quest for more torque started leaning away from the vortec 350 which is a great engine, and towards the 396. Last night I told her about the seller on craigslist, and that $2,500 is a good price for a big block engine that is ready to stab, and that is the route I want to go with this truck, and she didn't bat an eye. Isn't a crate vortec 350 about the same price?
