I like that turbodiesel burb, it looks like its dying for a manual trans swap or an HRPC Super700R4 trans.

That's my favorite style Monte Right there. Heavy ass cars. I don't care for the 73 74 lard ass looking models, and they shrunk down again in the late 70's early 80's and I don't like those either. They did start looking good agian in the mid to late 80's in the G body.

I'm almost thinking about looking for me a Gen 5 G Body Elco. For all these trips I need to make to my dads to sell a rear end or transmission and it costing me $50 round trip, I'm thinking with a later model Elco I can make the same trip for $30-$35. But here I go talking about trying to get something better on mpg and I know damn good and well, I'd end up building a damn motor and trans for it for drag racing and shoot the pooch on the whole purpose. I've been fooling myself for several years now.

I've been looking into getting a MIG for some time now and finally have the means to do so. I'm looking for a machine that will let me learn without too steep of a learning curve but allow me to have some room to grow.

Mainly looking to weld tube and 1/4" steel.

I would hold out for something different. While it is 230V machine, it doesn't have the gas solenoid. I'm not sure how much they run, or what the availability is, but I would hold out for one that is already setup for MIG instead of just Fluxcore. Fluxcore tends to burn hotter than MIG and is quite a bit messier spatter wise. If you are only looking to weld up to 1/4", a 110V welder is more portable (can run it anywhere that has 110V as opposed to fewer places having 230V). The Hobart Handler 140 can be had new for around $500, is already setup for Gas or Flux core, runs on 110V, and is just a very good all around welder. If you can find a lightly used one, that's what I would do.

Thanks Foamy. I'll take a look into those Hobarts. Apparently the conversion kits come with the gas solenoid as well and those are only about $200. So, the total would be roughly the same as a new Hobart. Plus, the garage is already wired for a couple 230v outlets. Don't really need it to be all that portable.
