Yeah, I have heard the same. The last one I listed off the 80 GMC I had, had a couple small dents its, so I tried $40 thinking I can always go down. Damn thing was sold in 30 minutes and picked up an hour later. This one is about as perfect as they get, so I figured $50 was a good price as fast as the dented $40 sold for. I already have a guy interested in the NP241C. He supposed to come see it in the morning.

hahaha, I just looked at my ads again, you missed it too. I had the title for the rear end, listed as Rear Emd. Just changed it to End.

Good tailgates for these SB's are hard to find period! When I was in the middle of building mine I looked and looked and never found a good tailgate that I was pleased with. They all either were rusted out, bent or dented past repair. I eventually bit the bullet and bought a new one from LMC instead. When I bought my bed from a guy down in Hutchinson, Ks it came with a tailgate and it was solid and rust free so I was pretty excited. Well, when I got it home and inspected it closer it was "bowed" like a bunch of weight had been sitting on the center of the gate while down and "bowed" it in the center. That part was disappointing. At least I got a good solid, used bed out of the deal, though. Those are hard to find as well and I think I only gave $250 for it. Had a couple of dents but was completely rust free and I repaired the dents.

My Dad scored the most perfect tailgate for a squarebody about 15 years ago for 50 bucks. Our neighbor across the street pulled his off to put a camper on his truck and stashed the tailgate for 20 something years. My dad still has that jewel stashed somewhere.

My Grandpa had a 79 (where my love affair with SB's started) when I was growing up and from the day he bought that thing new he took the tailgate off and stored it in his basement. He claimed the truck would get better gas mileage with it off (it was a v6 to begin with so how bad could mpg be?). Anywho, he had it off until the day he sold it to some schmuck across the street from him. He said he had no idea I loved the truck so much or he would have given it to me. The ********* who bought then proceeded to get the thing stuck in a field somewhere (it was a 2wd) and blew the thing up!! It only had 30,000 miles on it when it was sold.

Anywho, that's my "cherry tailgate" story....

Its horrible what happens to these pickups. Some people get it and some don't. The mythbusters proved the tailgate theory wrong a while ago, pickups are supposed to get better mileage with the tailgate on and up.

Yep, Mythbusters did it. I want to say they did a follow up on it too since someone requested with a tailgate net. It worked out that the tailgate net actually got better than the tailgate on and up. Or was it another show? Can't remember for sure now, but a Net got better than tailgate on and up.

They only look good when new and the net is straight and tight. After a short while and pulling on it to reattatch, it stretches, sags and looks like hell IMO.

I paid 500 for my digitals but that's probably expected. 800 for he oem gauges is for the birds! At that poin I'd be focused on restoring my old ones!
