It's my stress release. I can spend hours just walking around looking at the wrecks. Looking for rare parts. Getting ideas for projects.
Absolutley DITTO !!! Not to mention tearing something apart that you aren't 100% certain about, and learning how it goes back together. Fact is, you can tear junk apart there, and you don't have to put it back together. I got many years of automotive education going to the junk yard. In So Cal, it was only 4 miles from my house, so I was at least once a week. Most of the time, 2-3 times a week and one of those probably spent half the day there.
Occasonally, they'd have a special day. You spent $50 to get in, but you were able to carry out anything you could carry in a wheelbarrow or flat cart. I'd pay my $50 then go in and get a complete engine with a trans connected. Then all the other small stuff I wanted, like more carbs, electric fuel pumps, brake drums, guages etc etc. Trust me, I was loaded up. I liked those sales. Usually left with a 350 4 bolt and a Turbo 400 or 350. Of course they never had big blocks, those were always gone already. Once I got a LSD 4.10 rear end out of a Malibu/Chevelle and sold it for $500 as soon as I got home with it. CHA CHING !!! On those days, I'd pay $50 to get in 3 times sometimes and left loaded up everytime. Loved that place !!!
