Hmm..gotta' find a way to squeeze every last drop of fuel I can out my dime. It's averaging 20mpg mixed city/hwy right now. I drive a lot too.....so far since I bought it I've changed the plugs and fuel filter. Might buy a drop in K&N filter and see what that does for me. I should probably take this to off-topic lol.

The newer bodystyle bug is uglier than the first but it gets 45mpg. Anybody know what the old ones average?

The olds ones do not do that good compared to todays standards. You might get 25mpg and be lucky to run 75 mph with the wind behind you.

$500!! :D If my wife would let me I'd definitely shoot him an offer and see if sticks. I have a feeling she'd make me sleep in it, though, if I drug something like this home! :D

Do it! How long could she possibly make you sleep in it? Besides, it wouldn't be that bad... it's getting warmer outside you know:grd:

Really? Then what's so great about them?

The guy doesn't respond anyway. I hit him up in email about 2pm today and still no response. I just asked what kind of offer he had in mind, and asked if whoever took the motor out, did they butcher the engine harness, or can a motor be put in it without having to buy a new harness. No reponse. :shitsweak:

What's so great about what? The old ones? Not much is great about them, unless you just want one. You can modify them and they run like a bat outta hell. I've seen a few older VW bugs carry wheelies almost half track before, just popping the nose down to shift and right back up again. Wicked and Crazy !!! I'd never have beleived it if I didn't see it myself. First time I got shocked by a bug, it was racing a 66 El Camino that was loping off the motor mounts with a 427 and Muncie 4 speed. The El Co gave the bug the move, and the bug spanked the living dog **** outta that El Co. I never bet against VW again after that. I was littlerally laughing my ass off, when the dude had about 4 of his buddys on the front of the hood of the thing just so he could heat up his slicks, and I was like WTF is going on here??? I figured it out after I seen him run. This was at the illegal street races in So Cal way back in the day, about 2am on city streets.

Yep, that looks like Retro's truck right there. $1250 is a decent price for a short stepside if it really runs after a fuel pump and the body is a good as he desribes. I bet he'd take $1000. :grd:
