Yea its leaking where the pipe bolts to the manifold since that one stud snapped off. Very good point about fixing my existing one, since I have an extra car to drive I will pull off the manifold and see about fixing it. Honestly my last solution was to just bailing wire it together! Instead of tapping and all that ******** i think I will just drill the whole thing out and run a bolt with a shoulder through in its place.

You may not have all the tools you need to do it is why I suggest taking it to a machine shop. I can't see them charging anymore than $25 to get all the studs out and replace them. All 3 of them, because the other 2 are also brittle and ready to snap too from the heat. If they charge more for the other 2, then leave as is but at least see if they will run a die on those 2 to clean them up. And be sure to use BRASS nuts when putting it back together. Brass is softer, and will strip out instead of breaking studs, and the brass is softer than steel, so the brass will strip leaving the steel studs in good shape.
Here is how I'd fix it. Put the manifold in a big vise. Use a grinder to make the broke stud smooth and flat where you are going to drill it, otherwise it will throw your bit off center. Then get a center punch and hit with a hammer to start a small drill bit. Start with a small bit to get a pilot hole drilled first. Let the drill bit do the work. Don't apply alot of pressure or you'll break the bit off and have more problems. Once you have the small pilot hole, step up the bit side and double the size of your hole. Next bit size will be just under the size of your threads, drill it through, then it should be big enough to run a tap and the tap will clean out the rest of the broke stud. Takes patience and a few steps, but it works, and works well.

That's a fuggin steal. That truck looks to be in good shape. I'm here to tell you guys, knowing how to build transmisions is a money maker. People do the right thing and sell a truck like this for $500-800 because they know a trans job is $1100-$1500 on a 700r4 and the truck may not be worth $1100. If tht truck runs good, and idiots pay alot more for a shortbed, its looks like its in good body condition, if the motor runs well, its a $1500 truck at a fair quick mover price IMO. And get this, if you don't want to deal with a 700r4, convert to Turbo 350 wo OD, get a stronger transmission and you can usually find one of those rebuilt wo core charge for $600, and in this case, have a decent running truck with a new trans for $1300. Many don't know an intermediate tailshaft (9in) aka long shaft Turbo 350 will bolt right in place of a 700r4. Trans linkage, cooling lines, driveshaft length and yoke, and all will fit. Same trans mount too. The crossmember may have to move, but the truck has the T350 crossmember holes punched in it already from the factory already. Same starter and all. Its a direct bolt in most cases. There is a 1/4 inch differance in length between the 2, but that is easily made up in the slip yoke. You can even use the same Detent Cable / TV cable brakets.

BTW, when I refer to intermediate shaft T350, most of you refer to that as a long shaft Turbo 350. Why??? Because most are not aware Turbo 350 also came in a long shaft of 12in verson for mid 70's vans. Its uncommon to see, so everyone refers to the middle, or intermediate shaft T350 that comes in SB pickups as long shaft when its actually not.
Short Shaft - 6 inch tailshousing. Usually used on passenger cars and 69-72 1/2 ton trucks.
Intermediate Shaft - 9 inch tailhousing. Used on 73-87 1/2 ton and 3/4 GMC and Chevy Pick Ups. (Yes, 3/4 tons used T350 OEM, I think up to 77 or so, then all 3/4went back to T400's again, but 1 tons always used T400's)
Long Shaft - 12inch tailhousing - used in early to mid 70's vans for sure, maybe even further out into the 80's, not positive, but nonetheless, the 12in output shafts are rare.

Of course when I build a 700r4, I beef them up to tolerate abuse so they aren't as cheap as they could be, but you'd have some brown stuff running down your pant leg if you knew what it costs me to build a stock 700r4 back to OEM spec.

Normally, I would do that in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, the Silhouette can't go. I still need it for the wheelchair.

I traded a 2000 Mazda B2500 for it.

I ran a carfox report on it a few weeks later and it was very EERIE...

The van was bought new in Ohio.
I grew up in Ohio.

It was wrecked once in 1999...In Englewood, Ohio.
I lived in Englewood, Ohio for 3 years.

It was sent to Joseph Olds in Trotwood, Ohio
My brother worked at Joseph Olds for many years and we both knew the bodyshop tech that fixed it.

In 2000 the van went to Southern California.
In 2000 I moved to Anaheim, Ca.

In 2002 the van went BACK to Ohio.
In 2002 I moved back to Ohio.

In 2003 the van came to Texas.
In 2003 I moved to Texas.

I got it in 2006. It's like it followed me everywhere. Besides, other than some electrical problems, 2 fuel pumps, an ECM and right now a grenaded lifter, it's been super reliable, gets 35 MPGs and it will outhandle my friend's 2010 Corvette.

:D

So what your saying is, if the van ends up getting crushed for scrap you will die?
