Actually that's the motor I need for the 88 Burb. It was originally a TBI 454/400. $1000 isn't bad either if its really only 40K miles and is a GM or Jasper Crate.

Needs special motor mounts. But they are made aftermarket. I just posted a set on this thread like 2 days ago. A guy was selling a set for $100. Then the other is wiring, updating the fuel pump etc. Really not as hard as it sounds. IF you wanted you could also tune the computer to delete the 4L60-E and whatever trans you want.

So a 700R4 (or TH350) would still bolt up to it or would an adapter be necessary?

NO, It will not. 88-98 frame rails are widened out to accomodate the fuel tank being inside the rails. So the perches will be off. It could be modified to fit, but its not an even swap.

I'm really wanting to get some 3.73 (or maybe even some 4.10's) in my truck. That's the one thing I really don't like about my truck are the pansy gears in the rear.

Yeah, it'd actually require a lot of work to move up to a big block but I'm always up for finding projects for other people to perform! :) Eventually I'd like to move up to a big block but that's a ways down the road. :rocking:

No big blocks for me buddy, thanks anyway. Arent the bell housings different for a big block?

The LS engines have a differant bolt pattern than old the common ran forever Chevy bell housing. So an adapter would be needed. There are differant options there though. Its expensive but there are aftermarket companies that convert cases to removeable bellhousings, then you bolt on the newer bell housing and should be good to go.

Big Block, Small Block, 90 degree V6 and Chevy I6 all share the same Bell housing for years and years and years. That all changed when the 5.3 and 6.0 came out. And on the 8.1 BB, I am not certain. I have a feeling its probably the same old bell housing. Not 100% sure on that one.
