I wasn't aware of that. I don't think I have seen a v8 without PS. I wished I had time and an extra few bucks last time I was at Pull A Part. There was SB with an inline 6. NO power nothing at all. Stripped down model plain Jane as they come. I wanted that damn manual steering box. If I ever get to the point I can make a drag truck, I want no power crap. It won't be able to have power brakes cuz of big cam, and don't want a hp loss from the ps pump. Also when I have had race trucks in the past. I usually did a motor swap in about an hour to hour and half since there was nothing hooked up but fuel line, 2 radator hoses, hot wire, starter and alternator, headers and motor mounts. Using air tools of course.

yeah, I worked on a 1973 V8 SB with no PS. had nothing else either, really...But a 4 blade fan.

I was not aware the 67-72 steering boxes bolted up to the SB's. When you say linkage type power steering, that is actually a manual steeering box, and what's commonly reffered to as Power ASSISTED steering. Back then though, it was called power steering.
