yeh wasnt sure if it was as easy as an "8 lug = 32 spline/4l80 if it's a 4 speed auto" or not. Was looking for a quick easy way to identify NP208 32 spline other than a having TH400.

So now the question is......did 8 lugs ever come stock with a 700r4? I'm on the assumption the 8 lug is heavier duty, and a 700r4 isn't heavy duty to me. Sorry for 'tarded questions....still learnin' axles.

There were some rare situations where 3/4 ton got a 700r4 and I forget now how that was. Probably special order only perhaps? But it did happen.

Actually somewhere in the early 80's, maybe even 81, you only got a 14b Full Float with a 454 whether it was heavy duty suspension or not. I'd imagine there is some variance on that, like special order and such, but as a rule of thumb, small blocks and smaller got Semi F, 454 got Full F.

Interesting. I always figured that the semi float was tied to the appearance of the 700r4. I guess I've never noticed/seen too many of the early '80s 3/4 ton trucks.

Nope, the Semi Float is actually Standard Equipment for the 3/4 tons in the 80's. Either optional or comes in the 454 engine option package.

It's weird how it works. Let's use the Z71 package on pickups. Many people think it's just 4x4. No, the 4x4 is standard on a K series truck, that's why it's a K series truck. The Z71 is an ADDED option package off-road for $***. It includes Blistein Shocks, Skid Plate, G80 Locking rear Diff, Oversize Air Cleaner, and the Good Rugged deeper grooved floor mats. Now what the hell does floor mats and air cleaner have to do with Off-Road??? It's just the way the packages are put together. Sure the bigger air cleaner is nice if you're going to be in a dusty area, the floor mats are cool for mud and snow. At any rate, that's how some packages work. Point is, Z71 is automatically gives the G80 Locking Diff, as in the Squares, 454 engine upgrade option automatically gave the 14FF upgrade too as well auxiliary cooling fan and heavy duty cooling.

Yeah, I think part of it is that I'm used to thinking in terms of the all inclusive option packages, where you choose the trim level and all the other blanks are filled in. It's been a loong time since I thought back to when ordering 1 option would either lock or unlock other options.I do know that my '87 has the lightest GVW for the 3/4 ton trucks. And it would only stand to reason, that the GVW would be assigned after the options were ordered. The part I wonder about, is how the dealers ordered lot inventory. These days, they order lot stock for the year at the beginning of the model year, based off of previous years sales. I know it was more common to custom order vehicles back in the day, but wouldn't the more common "standard" equipment be what the dealer kept on the lot as general stock? I understand that the factory has a "base" build, but if the dealer is stocking the common options that the majority of people want for the quick off the lot sale, it seems like that would really be what was common, if not standard. And that could be affected regionally too.

lol, I gotta stop thinking about this.

I'm thinking that the 700R4 was available in low GVW C/K-20 trucks, once the heavier suspension options were added, they could not be had with the 700R4 because it was a component not up to the task.

I dunno.....

Uhhh. Not real promising?
60 bucks isn't a deal breaker, but I wanted a better option than mail a stranger 60 bucks cash without recourse.

I might have considered it IF they would have provided a focking address or something...amirite?
I'm thinking PayPal....I'm stupid all of a sudden?

Send me a picture of your electric bill and driver license... :/

No reason not to have paypal these days, especially if you're going to sell stuff on line.
