If you want to know the big tell tale QUICK sign of a A833, and I don't know why I'm telling my secret, is to make 4th gear an OD in tthat trasnmission, 3rd and 4th gear are actually reversed. Soooo, to keep the standard 1 2 3 4 shift pattern, instead of 12 43 position, the 3/4 gear lever is upside down. So 1/2 and R levers are pointed up, the 3/4 lever is pointed down.

It was the linkages that didn't look quite right to me, and now I seem to recall what you just said being mentioned in one of the other 833 threads on here.

I find myself really, really tempted to get this. Only beacuse I'll have everthing it's missing from the leftovers of my '87. I definitely don't need another truck, my '88 makes a great light duty run-about, and the D30 will handle the looking good/heavy duty end of things. Nope don't need another project, so why do I want it. Oh yeah, it's only about 30 minutes from me too. I need more property, then I think I could justify more trucks, lol

If that truly is a 4 speed automatic trans, that's a gold mine and it in it self is probably worth close to the $1000. It's still worth a $1000 all day long, put a cheap used 350 in it and run it.

What would make a 4 speed auto in that so valuable? I just now made the connection about the model year and 4 speed auto, but wouldn't that be one of the weaker early 700r4s?

You're right. I'd sure ask that first. I seen 3/4 ton and immediately thought 4L80-E.

Also appears to be a Semi Float rear axle, not a Full Floater. It still worth $1000 all day if it's not a rust bucket. The flat bed on it has a pretty fair value too.

yeah, I saw the ad, and just out of habit of having the 700r in my '87 3/4, didn't think anything strange about the it. I doubt I'll get it, unless it's still around after I finish disposing of the remains of the '87 and I get the '84 on the road. even then, still not sure what I'd do with 3 fullsize 4x4 trucks.

so would the 8 lug mean 32 spline NP208 if it hasn't been modified? Just curious.

Iirc, the 700r4 had the same 27 spline as the th350. The 32 spline t-cases came behind the th400, later m465's, and A833's

Correct !!! So if it has a 700r4 it'll be the 27 spline NP208, If it's a 4L80-E it would also be a 32 spline. I do highly doubt it's a 4L80-E though. Someone probably put a 700r4/NP208 out of a 1/2 ton.

Was just mentioning. I have no intentions of selling it, but if you were ever in position to buy and interested it might be available.

NO worries. I've done given up on having one. I just want to get this get this K10/20 done so I can say I least completed 1 of my projects then I'll probably off myself and let my kids sell it for $500 cuz they won't want it, but hey, at least I'll have completed 1 of the many I had.

yeh wasnt sure if it was as easy as an "8 lug = 32 spline/4l80 if it's a 4 speed auto" or not. Was looking for a quick easy way to identify NP208 32 spline other than a having TH400.

So now the question is......did 8 lugs ever come stock with a 700r4? I'm on the assumption the 8 lug is heavier duty, and a 700r4 isn't heavy duty to me. Sorry for 'tarded questions....still learnin' axles.

It's a fair question. I don't know when they started it, but at some point in the mid '80s they started offering the 3/4 ton models in "light" and "heavy" duty. Light duty trucks cam equipped like my '87 did, with a 700r4 trans and a semi float 9.5 inch 14 bolt rear axle. The heavy duty version got the th400 trans, and a full float 10.5 14 bolt rear axle. both versions had the corp 10 bolt front axles, and both were 8 lug.

Actually somewhere in the early 80's, maybe even 81, you only got a 14b Full Float with a 454 whether it was heavy duty suspension or not. I'd imagine there is some variance on that, like special order and such, but as a rule of thumb, small blocks and smaller got Semi F, 454 got Full F.
