I see units that same size for for 100 bucks here. That guy is being greedy.

Wait a minute, that might be a good hoist. The ram is aftermarket but compare the frame to my Carolina. Made in the U.S. with a 4000 lb. rating.

There is NO WAY absolutely NO WAY I'd pay close to $200 for a used one when I can get a new one for that price. Now being a more HD one, say the autozone does 4,000 and the other does 8,000 then maybe, then is not only does the ram/bottle jack need to be capable of that weight, the whole thing does, the steel the boom, the frame, the legs all of it.

I can take mine from autozone and throw on let's say a 10,000 lb jack and that means nothing since the frame isn't built to handle that kind of weight.

Sky's Carolina looks identical to my hoist I bought probably 20 years ago. Mine had that same exact little 3 ton jack on it too. But after it flew out of the back of the truck and was hanging on the tailgate by 1 wheel and fully extenced the boom and drug it 100ft before I got stopped and pulled over, the jack hadn't worked right since. Being it was only $8 more for the 8 ton jack after I used discounts, I got the 8 ton jack instead of the 3 ton. Big differance in lift power too.

Same goes for the GMC also? Yes, those vehicle are to high to pull motors with an engine hoist. I guess you could park under a big tree too. Pul it up with a block and tackle, push the truck back, then lower it to the ground. Its been done before. Just have to improvise sometimes. Those big trucks are an example of needing to improvise.

BTW, here is a pic of the 2 jacks side by side. Quite a difference. No mods to do, bolted right in with the same bolts and all. An easy upgrade, even a cave man can do it.

A trolley-type hoist on an I-beam like you see in a big garage would be the best way to go, with an electric winch-type lift.

Don't forget to check the pawn shops. I bought one for 60 dollars that looks exactly like the one you found for 200.

Is $200 too much for this used one? Its gonna cost $50 in gas just to go get it also. Its hour drive from me.

I offered $50 plus the ride to come it. They said No thanks and will keep it. They also dont know the brand of it and bought it used off someone else. I also told them I can get a new one for $200.
