In my wife’s 86 k10 when coming to a stop sign if you are not slowing down wayyyy before and barely stepping on the brake the rear wheel looks up causing the tire to screech. Any thoughts or ideas?

Does it do it on every stop or just the first few each day?
Every stop. Even coming down my dirt driveway step on the break and the rear locks right up and slides, I was thinking it was lack of rear end weight but it’s crazy. There’s zero doubt that if it needed to be braked hard in traffic it would lock right up

Try backing up, apply brakes. or alternately do a few stops and put a heat gun on every corner. Are the front brakes doing anything?

contaminated linings, oil brake fluid?

the fronts seem to be rolling and braking okay. No yard pulling or yanking that I have felt at all.

I think I stand corrected my wife side when we were driving it today that it was only the right rear wheel locking up

I should see fluid leaking out of the backing plate if that’s the case right?
Other than rip the wheel and drum off?

Pull the wheel and drum and inspect. Look for contaminated shoes, leaks, broken, frozen, adjusters springs etc. You know you have a problem at right rear, even its just a sympton, that's the obvious place start to looking for problems. If you cannot find a problem there then start looking for less obvious problems.

Rear Brakes or  shoes.

Might need a wheel cylinder.
Do yourself a favor one time and replace  them both.
If you find fluid behind the rubber that's your clue.
Blue.

Buy a  complete or full "combi-kit" and replace the springs and associated hardware at the same time. I wouldn't spend the energy and time "looking at it". Buy the parts first and take it apart.
*pro-tip*
Only take one assembly apart at a time leaving the other side intact for reference. Put it back together  EXACTLY like it was and make damned certain to get the drums turned. Take the drums with you when you buy the parts to have them turned. You'll know then if you need new shoes. Call the store first.

That might have been 3 or 4 pro tips...you can do it. You'll need a rubber mallet, a #2 flathead, a 3/8 socket (5/16?), 3 inch extension, ratchet and a pair of medium d y k e s. Grr. Diagonal cutters. Plan to spend several hours and don't forget that cleanliness is next to godliness mmmkay?
Use wheel chocks. Safety first!

Medium d y k e s?

So you barely step on the pedal and it locks up? Mine did this the day I got it - the front flex lines were shot and totally collapsing.
makes sense, all pressure going to the back.

if funds are available, replace the drums, 3 hoses, calipers, wheel cylinders, and pads. Also look at your lines. Those are easy to "mend" bad spots. All in one whack that way you've been through it all and the brakes are all on the same "cycle"...instead of "I did this part last year, and that part 3 yrs ago" so on and so forth.

Funds low, do what you gotta do.

Happy Wrenching :)
