Your exhaust pipe looks closer to the frame than mine... I wonder if it really did melt from just being there or if it at some point was flopped over on the exhaust. It was stuck to the frame rail right where that rivet is in this picture.

I took a point n shoot thermometer while the truck was fully warmed and idling... pipe is about 135 degrees at the closest point to the frame. An oven thermometer said the air was about 96 degrees where the melted part was. This must mean that the wire flopped over onto the exhaust. The clip was missing in that spot.


Called LMC..."rear body harness" is just the tail light section... meh :( I will be repairing the wiring tonight if it doesn't rain.

I fixed it!!

Honestly was my first attempt at major electrical work. I'm not very good at soldering but I got better with each wire. It's soldered, heat shrink, and wires taped with loom over it. I also bought some wire harness clips and moved the higher in the frame rail away from exhaust. All lights function correctly. I am pretty impressed with myself. Anyway thank you to chengny for all the help.
