has anyone bought after market fenders and hoods for their square and found the best brand to go with? i need to get a hood and passenger fender 81-87 style, but don’t want to buy aftermarket junk stuff.

Are used original parts that hard to find near you? That's my first go to when in search of something. I don't even want to waste my time hoping an aftermarket will fit. Hell, where I'm at, it's damn near impossible to get rid of a good hood. And most everything up here rusts to ****.

My advise is find used OEM parts. I know from experience keystone cheap doors do not fit worth a damn.

i didn’t know if aftermarket would be a good fit or if buying used is a better option. my passenger fender is crumpled near the cab and has started to rust so it needs to be replaced. and i’m going to replace the hood with a cowl hood to clear my air cleaner/intake manifold.

Most all the repop stuff comes from the same factory in Taiwan, no matter where you buy it from. Sometimes it fits ok, often not. The '81-up fenders are usually a better stamping than the '73-'80.

okay good to know. the 81-87 stuff is hard to find used and in good condition. that’s why i was asking about reproduction, i might have to just buy some and hope for the best

exactly as bucket said. I've got some parts here for my trans am that prove it.

They had a sherman, goodmark and I think maybe amd and other company part number on them, all from the same place. chl or something I think it says. I bought them as goodmarks from different places, one was bought from jegs as a gold star or golden star part.

I can also tell you that I had an 83 that had both front fenders repops and they fit good, they had some trimming and they had some shims a good bit. I didn't know they were repops until I tore it down, they were capa certified, I heard those are the best, but like above same place usually.

i know i’m going to have to shim them quite a bit to get them to fit properly on my 75 cab. I’m trying to avoid having to do body work on the fenders and deal with that. my driver fender, doors, cab, and rad support are straight and perfect with no rust or damage. So i just have to work with the aftermarket hood , but i’ll try to find a decent passenger fender to work with.

Expect minor dings and creases when you unwrap aftermarket panels, that's just how it goes. Also don't be surprised if you open it up and it's got a really good whackaroo somewhere on it... It's best to inspect as soon as you take delivery. Between being tossed on a boat, and then tossed into transport trucks, tossed into a warehouse, tossed into another truck and so on, damage is common.

Aftermarket ain't worth a damn IMO. The worst. I bought rockers for my truck & are super flimsy, they fit... but need to make adjustments not to mention i'm not keen on them being Taiwan. So I went on eBay and bought a NOS Rocker for $175
